Underlying any form of creative activity is the concept of design. This is underscored by the current emphasis on design<\/p>\n
research and design thinking. Yet, whenever one asks a designer to explain design, they reply with some version of the<\/p>\n
“Addie” (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. And while everybody is happy with<\/p>\n
describing the whole Addie process, very few people stop to think what actually happens in that “black box” called<\/p>\n
“Design”. Similarly when people talk about design research, they often concentrate too much on the process or the<\/p>\n
product, and too little on the underlying concepts and theories. The dilemma is to discover what actually makes it<\/p>\n
research. This conference runs on six tracks namely Design, Development, Research, Dilemma, ICT for Development and<\/p>\n
Instructional Design (Education).<\/p>\n
Papers, posters and proposals for workshops, symposia and panel discussions are invited for the second Design,<\/p>\n
Development and Research conference to be held on the Bellville Campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology,<\/p>\n
Cape Town, South Africa.<\/p>\n
All the accepted papers will appear in the Conference Proceedings, published online. Papers are peer-reviewed and<\/p>\n
published for accreditation according to the requirements of the South African Department of Higher Education and<\/p>\n
Training (DHET). Papers of high quality will be submitted in a modified version to be published in special issues of certain<\/p>\n
peer-reviewed journals.<\/p>\n
