WITNESS empowers people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change. Founded nearly 20 years ago by musician and activist, Peter Gabriel, WITNESS partners with NGO\u2019s, community groups, and grassroots organizations around the globe.<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.witness.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.witness.org<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Description<\/div>\n<div>The Finance Department provides accounting, financial management, tax preparation, and grants management support for WITNESS. There is a great deal of collaborative work with other staff and departments within WITNESS.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tasks include:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Supporting daily accounting work (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger) using Blackbaud\u2019s Financial Edge system and Excel<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Assisting with the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting schedules (i.e. Fixed Assets, Grant Releases, etc.)<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Preparing budgets and reports for grant applications<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Coordinating materials for preparation of annual tax returns<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Assisting with reconciliation of employee and partner advances<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Maintaining departmental records<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Qualifications<\/div>\n<div>Potential interns should be undergraduate or graduate students. We look for an academic focus in Nonprofit Financial Management, Accounting, Business, or a related field.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Candidates should have:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 At least two (2) years of accounting \/ business \/ financial management or related coursework<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Related internship experience<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Ability to work independently as well as to multitask effectively<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word required<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Experience with Powerpoint and\/or Blackbaud\u2019s Financial Edge system is a strong plus<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All interns are expected to spend 20% &#8211; 30% of their time engaged in administrative support to Finance staff. In certain instances, special projects may be designed for an intern.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>General Information<\/div>\n<div>We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 15 hours per week. Internships are unpaid. \u00a0Our offices are located in Brooklyn, NY, convenient to the Atlantic Terminal (2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, Q, N and R trains) and C (Lafayette) and G (Fulton) trains.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Application Instructions:<\/div>\n<div>No phone inquiries please.
