WITNESS empowers people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change. Founded nearly 20 years ago by musician and activist Peter Gabriel, WITNESS partners with NGOs, community groups, and grassroots organizations around the globe.<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.witness.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.witness.org<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Description:<\/div>\n<div>WITNESS is offering unpaid internships in our Media Archive. \u00a0Interns train under the supervision of an Archivist, providing general assistance and performing a range of tasks in a fast-paced advocacy-oriented production and human rights archive. \u00a0The WITNESS Media Archive is the repository for over 4000 hours of original raw video footage from human rights NGOs around the world, as well as over 50 original documentary productions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is a great internship for students interested in hands-on, in-depth cataloging experience; working with unedited, unpublished video footage in a dynamic production environment; and exposure to documentary or nonfiction materials.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Approximately 20-30% of the time will be engaged in administrative tasks, and the remainder will involve duties such as cataloging media in an in-house database, handling archival digital media, researching the collection for clients and staff, digitization projects, screening\/logging\/transcribing footage, and post-production support.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Qualifications:<\/div>\n<div>Ideally, potential Interns should be graduate students with a focus in studies of moving image archives, library science, archival studies, human rights, international relations, or media production.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Candidates should have:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Familiarity with foreign affairs and international politics;<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Strong written English skills;<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Experience or strong interest in archival work &amp; setting;<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Experience with or strong interest in working with visual media<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Other preferred qualifications include:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Experience or skills in video production or digital media;<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Fluency in Spanish, French or other foreign language;<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Knowledge of Filemaker databases;<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Knowledge of metadata or cataloging standards or protocols.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>General Information<\/div>\n<div>We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 35 hours per week.
