WITNESS empowers people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change. Founded nearly 20 years ago by musician and activist Peter Gabriel, WITNESS partners with NGOs, community groups, and grassroots organizations around the globe.<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.witness.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.witness.org<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Description<\/div>\n<div>We are currently looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable intern to support a new WITNESS campaign on gender-based violence (GBV) in the context of armed conflict and political repression. Depending on where we are in the campaign, the GBV Campaign intern may be involved in a range of research, production support and outreach\/advocacy activities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>***Native fluency in French or Arabic is essential to this internship. ***<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tasks Include:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Researching GBV related issues including gender justice in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Central African Republic (CAR)<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Supporting preparations for trainings conducted by Program staff<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Create Script from existing video from DRC<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Create a Production binder for the DRC video \u201cOur Voices Matter\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Writing blogs on GBV related issues<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Researching distribution channels including media in Kinshasa (DRC capital) for the video<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Supporting distribution and outreach around a particular video advocacy campaign<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Handling administrative responsibilities including maintenance of contact databases and files<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Participating in weekly staff meetings<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All interns are expected to spend between 20-30% of their time engaged in administrative support.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Qualifications:<\/div>\n<div>Potential interns should be undergraduates or graduate students. We look for a focus in studies on human rights, international relations, history, political science, and area studies (e.g., with particular regional concentration).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Candidates should have:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Solid understanding of gender-based violence as a human rights issue, specifically in the context of armed conflict and political repression, and international and national justice mechanism<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 A background in human rights and\/or video<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Relevant regional experience, either academic or practical<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Previous NGO experience (experience abroad is a plus)<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Fluency in English and French or Arabic<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>General Information<\/div>\n<div>We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 35 hours a week.
