I can do illustration, technical and creative writing, digital imaging, graphic design, game design and animation\/video production and editing. I’m not an expert at any of those, but I can do them all pretty well. Some 3D, but I’m not too confident with those skills in a professional capacity. I’ve had the same problem concerning marketable skills that was touched upon earlier in this thread. I’m pretty good or decent at a whole lot of shit, but I’m not great or specialized in anything, which in a specialized market means I’m kinda hosed. At face value, its a marketing<br \/>\n> > position, which I’ve never been trained at and thus could never have<br \/>\n> > anticipated for myself… but, being able to go to high schools all<br \/>\n> over the<br \/>\n> > city I lived in and give talks to students was this incredible<br \/>\n> balance of<br \/>\n> > having something that paid the bills (and benefits! ah,<br \/>\n> > academia),discussing subjects that interested me to students that I<br \/>\n> learned<br \/>\n> > so much from myself, was incredibly rewarding, and seperate en<br \/>\n> > ough from my own work that i didn’t come home creatively drained, so<br \/>\n> I<br \/>\n> > could continue to do my own projects. I don’t think that is the only<br \/>\n> > instance such a balance can occur and that i was just lucky, it just<br \/>\n> > requires some searching. I have a friend whose background is in the<br \/>\n> arts,<br \/>\n> > who works at a physics lab with some of the most brilliant minds on<br \/>\n> the<br \/>\n> > planet – using her skills as a communicator (skills WE have as<br \/>\n> artists and<br \/>\n> > interactive teleCOMMUNICATIONs majors we are) to organize science<br \/>\n> kits and<br \/>\n> > workshops for students and the general public – and she loves going<br \/>\n> to work<br \/>\n> > every day. I think besides thinking about skills such as<br \/>\n> programming, etc.,<br \/>\n> > there is something else that we have to offer the world which is extremely<br \/>\n> > valuable — communication, enlightenment, ability to navigate between<br \/>\n> > disciplines, even just the sense of playfulness at ITP is something<br \/>\n> I feel<br \/>\n> > is extremely beneficial for us to have had experience with, if we<br \/>\n> just talk<br \/>\n> > it up in whatever applications an<br \/>\n> > d interviews that await us. Maybe I sound like I’m that dreaming-artist<br \/>\n> > and that I’m not being realistic, but I really don’t think so (I<br \/>\n> could go on<br \/>\n> > with other examples but I’ll spare it for brevity).<br \/>\n> ><br \/>\n> > —– Original Message —–<br \/>\n> > From: OpusRAW@aol.com<br \/>\n> > Date: Tuesday, February 3, 2009 1:36 pm<br \/>\n> > Subject: Re: On the subject of job postings…<br \/>\n> > To: ITP Students<br \/>\n> ><br \/>\n> > > I hear you. I never really accrued any truly marketable skills at<br \/>\n> ITP.<br \/>\n> > > I<br \/>\n> > > can’t say that it was a complete waste of time, since I did learn<br \/>\n> the<br \/>\n> > > basics of<br \/>\n> > > Flash and ActionScript to get my own personal game projects off the<br \/>\n> > > ground.<br \/>\n> > > But I’m not entirely sure it was worth the disastrous financial<br \/>\n> > > situation I’m<br \/>\n> > > in right now– I went to a state school for undergrad, so after<br \/>\n> > > getting my BA<br \/>\n> > > I was in a nice position of being completely debt free. I took on<br \/>\n> > > lots of<br \/>\n> > > loans to go to NYU, however, largely because I thought it would<br \/>\n> > > improve my<br \/>\n> > > job-opportunities. Now, I find I’m underqualified for all the game<br \/>\n> > > design jobs I<br \/>\n> > > want (because I haven’t worked in the private sector) and that I’m<br \/>\n> > > overqualified for any of the part-time temp jobs I might need<br \/>\n> > > (because nobody trusts<br \/>\n> > > somebody with an MA to stick around any longer than it takes to find<br \/>\n> > > a real<br \/>\n> > > job.)<br \/>\n> > > **************Stay up to date on the latest news – from sports scores<br \/>\n> > > to<br \/>\n> > > stocks and so much more.
