Volunteer Opportunities at Older Adults Technology Services<\/p>\n

WHO WE ARE<\/strong>
\nOlder Adults Technology Services (OATS) is a nationally recognized nonprofit that engages older adults\u00a0in using technology to improve their quality of life and enhance their social and civic engagement.\u00a0This fall OATS is opening the Senior Planet Exploration Center, a unique technology-themed destination\u00a0for older adults in Manhattan\u2019s Chelsea neighborhood. The Exploration Center will provide a range of\u00a0programming, including tech training, a speaker series and cultural events. OATS is also re-launching its\u00a0website for seniors and managing a citywide network of 23 community-based technology labs and local\u00a0training programs for older New Yorkers.<\/p>\n

WHO WE\u2019RE LOOKING FOR
\nFront Desk Reception Volunteers<\/strong>
\nOATS is seeking volunteers to serve as ambassadors of our organization. Front desk volunteers will\u00a0answer the phone, greet visitors, and respond to inquiries regarding our programs and services, and\u00a0more. We will be training volunteers on our equipment and provide all information you might need; and\u00a0staff members are always nearby to answer any questions.
\nSchedule<\/strong> Front Desk Volunteers should commit to work a regular 4-hour shift any weekday morning or\u00a0afternoon between 9am and 4pm.
\nWho should apply<\/strong> This volunteer position is ideal for anyone who wants to keep their administrative\u00a0skills current, learn new skills, and gain knowledge on the structure and operations of a nonprofit\u00a0organization.

Tech Support Volunteers<\/strong>
\nOATS is seeking tech support volunteers to work at the \u201cTech Desk\u201d and help visitors with technology-related questions, basic computer skills and trouble-shooting for their computers and devices.
\nSchedule<\/strong> Tech support volunteers should commit to work a regular 4-hour shift any weekday morning\u00a0or afternoon between 9am and 4pm.
\nWho should apply<\/strong> If you possess technology knowledge and skills, this is a great role to explore.\u00a0Volunteers who can provide technical support for our lab\/training & website are especially valuable.

Events Volunteers<\/strong>
\nOATS is seeking an events volunteer to assist at upcoming events, presentations and meetups. Duties\u00a0may include greeting\/registration, d\u00e9cor & set up, ticket\/coat collection, and general clean up and\u00a0breakdown of staging.
\nSchedule<\/strong> Volunteers should commit to a two- to four-hour time slot per event 1-2x per month.
\nWho should apply<\/strong> This is perfect for someone looking to complete community service hours or simply\u00a0get involved in fun, cultural and informational programs and events.

Editorial Intern<\/strong>
\nSenior Planet is seeking an editorial\/production intern to help with the October launch and upkeep of\u00a0our new site, SeniorPlanet.org. The editorial\/production intern will assist the site editor and other\u00a0editorial staff with, among other duties:
\n– Online research
\n– Content curating
\n– Sourcing stock images
\n– Inputting content
\n– Some writing and visual content creation
\nWhat you\u2019ll learn<\/strong> Working directly with the site editor, the intern will have every opportunity to learn\u00a0the day-to-day workings of online publishing. Specific skills you\u2019ll be able to develop: editorial research,\u00a0writing, photo editing, WordPress CMS.
\nWho should apply<\/strong> The ideal intern will be interested in developing editorial skills with a view to possibly\u00a0working in online publishing. Candidates for this position should have a solid command of language, feel\u00a0comfortable writing in conversational English, and have very basic image editing skills (i.e.: Photoshop)\u00a0along with a facility for learning new applications and using new digital tools.

Administrative Intern<\/strong>
\nOATS is seeking an intern to handle all general front desk duties as well as provide administrative\u00a0support for a new Technology Exploration Center launching this October in Chelsea. Duties include\u00a0facilitating correspondence, word processing, data input, answering requests for information on our\u00a0programs & training and social networking on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In etc.
\nWhat you\u2019ll learn<\/strong> Working directly with a project coordinator, social media manager and other key staff,\u00a0this role will introduce you to our daily work. By supporting the organization in various administrative\u00a0and operational tasks, you will greatly increase your experience and network in the community.
\nSchedule<\/strong> We\u2019re looking for an intern to work 2-3 days per week for a minimum of four hours per day.\u00a0College credit may be available with prior approval from career center\/college advisor on your campus.
