Today NYSCI offers an unparalleled range of 450 indoor and outdoor\u00a0interactive exhibits, discovery labs, a science and technology library and special events that\u00a0promote curiosity, creativity and discovery and invite visitors to explore STEM. NYSCI is the City\u2019s\u00a0only hands-on science and technology center and is committed to serving a broad audience,\u00a0particularly low-income, minority and other underserved communities. Each year, NYSCI serves\u00a0nearly a half-million visitors who are recognized as the most ethnically diverse population in the\u00a0country, including children and families, students, teachers, community groups and more from\u00a0every borough of New York City, Nassau and Suffolk counties, the tri-state area, and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>NYSCI is currently developing new approaches to engaging visitors in science on the floor of the\u00a0museum. The largest of these initiatives, the Design Lab, is scheduled to open at NYSCI in 2014.\u00a0Design-based practices on the museum floor require facilitation, and a key objective is to develop\u00a0new training models for Explainers that will effectively support this work.<\/p>\n<p>NYSCI has approximately 90 full-time and over 150 part-time staff-members.<\/p>\n<p>Departmental Role: The IT Technician is responsible for the deployment, operation,\u00a0maintenance, and support of hardware, software, and related infrastructure that enables\u00a0NYSCI to accomplish its mission and goals.<\/p>\n<p>Function: The IT Technician is responsible for evaluating, repairing and maintaining\u00a0all computer-based exhibit hardware, software, audio and video components and other\u00a0electronic exhibit based equipment required to guarantee the highest quality visitor\u00a0experience for NYSCI guests. The IT Technician will also provide systems and desktop\u00a0support LOB personnel as directed.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>1. Daily tasks include: diagnose and troubleshoot computer hardware and software,\u00a0repair electronic control devices such as trackballs and touch-screens, troubleshoot\u00a0electromechanical peripherals such as serial-controlled motors, pumps, input-output\u00a0devices, and repair\/replace audio and video equipment.<\/p>\n<p>2. Research, specify, make recommendations and provide cost estimates for repair,\u00a0upgrade or replacement of electronic equipment. Obtain quotes from vendors and\u00a0handle equipment orders. Facilitate redesign or seek functional replacements for\u00a0obsolete exhibit technologies.<\/p>\n<p>3. Develop\/maintain exhibit documentation, including equipment and parts specification,\u00a0updating of manuals, repair records and costs,<\/p>\n<p>4. Builds, deploys and maintains desktop workstations, laptops, mobile devices, printers,\u00a0fax machines, and other information systems resources as needed.<\/p>\n<p>5. Plan, implement, and administrate IT security measures to protect data, software, and\u00a0hardware.<\/p>\n<p>6. Conduct regular reviews of the asset management data to insure an accurate\u00a0accounting of server\/infrastructure inventory.<\/p>\n<p>7. Responding to and resolving client service issues in a timely manner to support line of\u00a0business SLA obligations.<\/p>\n<p>8. Follow management direction and guidelines for day to day management of service\u00a0tickets, change orders requests, and incident management.<\/p>\n<p>9. Produces documentation that describes systems, operational procedures, events and\u00a0associated processes.<\/p>\n<p>10. Work with Director of IT and Director of Exhibits Services to formulate long- and short-range planning for equipment standardization and upgrades across all exhibits, also\u00a0help set priorities for upgrades and anticipate obsolescence in cost effective and\u00a0budget sensitive ways.<\/p>\n<p>11. Train personnel as needed.<\/p>\n<p>12. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with exhibits and IT personnel\u00a0as well associates, consultants, customers and visitors. Prepare for and participate in\u00a0department and interdepartmental meetings and perform other job-related duties and\u00a0assigned by Director of IT.<\/p>\n<p>13. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>14. Responsible for off hours support as needed.<\/p>\n<p>15. Complete other tasks as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Supervisory Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>Actively supervise consultants, designers and\u00a0vendors as needed to maintain and create AMAZING public experiences for NYSCI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Education: Bachelor\u2019s degree and Technical training\/equivalent technical experience required.\u00a0ACSP \/ MCDST, and Google Apps Certified Deployment Specialist\u00a0certification highly desired. BS, BA, or Masters in relevant field a plus.<\/p>\n<p>Experience: \u00a0Experience upgrading interactive applications, and migrating interactive\u00a0applications to new computer platforms is required.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Commitment to the philosophy and mission of NY Hall of Science.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Ability to analyze, diagnose and troubleshoot technical hardware and software systems is\u00a0required.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Experience upgrading interactive applications, and migrating interactive applications to\u00a0new computer platforms is required.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Expertise in software and hardware computer systems including: Windows (XP &#8211; 8), OS X\u00a0(v10.3 &#8211; 10.8), Adobe Flash and Director, Max MSP Jitter desirable.
