\u2028The Department of Entertainment Technology in the School of Technology and Design at New York City \u2028College of Technology invites applications for a full time, tenureItrack position in Interactive and \u2028Emerging Media Technologies, beginning with the Spring 2013 or Fall 2013 semester and at a rank of \u2028Assistant Professor. \u00a0The department has a record of consistent growth and seeks an individual with \u2028high energy and motivation to join a worldIclass team of industry experts to further advance the \u2028department’s activities.<\/p>\n
The department offers a distinctive and unique baccalaureate degree in Emerging Media Technologies, \u2028which is in its third year. We are in the process of defining Emerging Media Technologies and how \u2028these integrate into a curriculum that must be agile enough to maintain currency in an era of \u2028breathtakingly rapid change. \u00a0Superbly positioned in downtown Brooklyn, steps away from the newly \u2028planned Media Hub at Brooklyn Navy Yard, and just south of DUMBO (one of NYC’s fastest growing \u2028centers of media and technology), the college sees unlimited opportunity to develop public\/private \u2028collaboration in the context of education.<\/p>\n
Undergraduate instruction is offered in a variety of disciplines, including live performance technologies, \u2028emerging media technologies, media computation, video production, scenery construction, lighting, \u2028sound, show control, video systems, music technology, interactive entertainment, and management. \u00a0\u2028Program graduates are generalists, well prepared for careers in all genres of media, entertainment, and \u2028related industries. Students start with a unified set of foundation courses that introduce them to \u2028required skills, knowledge and processes. \u00a0They then elect to specialize in media design, computation, or fabrication. \u00a0The core of the program is based around hands on interdisciplinary team projects that \u2028allow students the ability to work on real world productions under the guidance and mentoring of \u2028faculty and industry professionals. In addition to their academic studies, they are expected to enhance \u2028their educational experience with outside activities, including internships and freelance work, in NYC, \u2028the entertainment and media capital of the world. Based on our effective education in many \u2028disciplines, our graduates are employed throughout the country.<\/p>\n
The facilities include stateIofItheIart laboratories, a dedicated twoIhundred seat theatre, a video \u2028production studio, and a variety of smaller spaces. \u00a0Equipment inventory worth over 2.5 million dollars allows students to gain experience with many different components and systems. \u00a0The department\u2028receives support from a number of industry partners, who help to maintain currency of technology.<\/p>\n

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES<\/p>\n
A successful candidate will take a leadership role within the department in emerging and \u2028interactive media. He\/she will contribute to the design, development, and support of \u2028multidisciplinary laboratories and curricula within the Emerging Media Technologies program. \u2028In addition, the candidate will assist in outreach to develop partners among public institutions, \u2028government organizations and industry. Duties will also include teaching, student advisement, \u2028and participation in collegeIwide service opportunities, as appropriate to a professorial \u2028appointment. Although City Tech is not primarily a research institution, faculty are expected to \u2028engage in scholarly or creative work that achieves professional recognition. The candidate is \u2028expected to sustain professional development at the cutting edge of technology, to promote \u2028the development and integration of emerging technologies into the industry, and to play a key \u2028role in interIdepartmental projects.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n
The position requires a terminal degree and significant professional experience in a relevant \u2028field. A successful candidate will have: experience in artistic and cultural presentations; a\u2028strong vision and ability to anticipate technology transformations; related experiences in \u2028digital audio\/video, interactive technologies and systems integration; theoretical and practical \u2028experience with computation; experience in new program development and prior \u2028collaboration with engineering and technology fields. UniversityIlevel teaching experience is \u2028advantageous, as teaching will be a major expectation of the position.<\/p>\n
