County in 2013. Videos may be animations, documentaries, narratives and experimental videos about, by and in Los Angeles. We invite you to share your impressions, offer information and insights, and present issues relating to LA. Taken together we hope to create a mosaic of our complex city.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to enrich the bus environment for riders through media offerings that coax them to explore what exists OUT THE WINDOW.<\/p>\n<p>Our first successful rotation of the project happened in June. The second in October &amp; November. ($100 for pre-existing, $200 for custom editing, $400 for newly commissioned works)<\/p>\n<h1>Background<\/h1>\n<p>OUT THE WINDOW is a multi-phase project. The first phase presented videos made by L.A. youth with Echo Park Film Center and Public Matters. UCLA REMAP produced the technical interface.\u00a0The second phase featured videos by artists. A Youtube video explains the project: \u00a0http:\/\/youtu.be\/W-ekiTrnYW0<\/p>\n<h1>How does it work?<\/h1>\n<p>Selected videos will be<br \/>\n\u2026.presented on Transit TV screens inside LA Metro buses (2 screens per bus)<br \/>\n\u2026.presented on our blog:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.out-the-window.org\/blog\">www.out-the-window.org\/blog<\/a>\u00a0 and our vimeo channel:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vimeo.com\/outthewindow\">www.vimeo.com\/outthewindow<\/a><br \/>\n\u2026.appear on all 2,000 buses simultaneously, countywide<br \/>\n\u2026.followed by a question from the mediamaker that bus riders can answer via text, and will then appear on our blog<\/p>\n<h1>How to apply<\/h1>\n<p>Fill in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/freewavesopencall.org\/entry_form.php\">entry form<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Send us a URL on your entry form OR a DATA DVD to:<br \/>\nFreewaves<br \/>\n6522\u00a0 Hollywood Blvd<br \/>\nLos Angeles CA 90028<\/p>\n<p>We will accept preview videos of any length and will ask that final selections be 2 minutes long. Application materials will not be returned. Students of all ages are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<h1>IMPORTANT DATES<\/h1>\n<h3>DUE DATE: JANUARY 21, 2013<br \/>\nNOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPRING 2013<br \/>\nSCREENINGS: SPRING2013-WINTER2014<\/h3>\n<h1><strong>IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS<\/strong><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>The bus is a specific and challenging environment and you should be familiar with the conditions and audience before you make or select your video.<\/li>\n<li>Audience.\u00a0Riders include more people of color and more low income Angelenos. Demographics are linked at<a href=\"http:\/\/www.transitv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.transitv.com<\/a>. See Los Angeles under \u201cMarkets.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Visuals.\u00a0In a mobile environment with competing sounds, strong visuals are key. If dialogue must be included, write text titles so the dialogue is readable. Titles should be LARGE.\u00a0 Use a sans-serif, 85-point font or larger.<\/li>\n<li>Original content.\u00a0 No copyrighted material (music, etc)<\/li>\n<li>Prohibited content.\u00a0 Transit TV prohibits nudity, sex, violence, alcohol, tobacco and weapons in its programming.<\/li>\n<li>Context.\u00a0 Accepted videos will be included in the context of Transit TV\u2019s regular program of news, ads and quizzes.<\/li>\n<li>Interactivity.\u00a0Freewaves will ask bus riders to text us in response to a question posed at the end of each video. Questions can be philosophical, ask about specific LA locations, or seek riders\u2019 opinions, values, or imaginings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>SPECS<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>TV screen is only 19&#8243; diagonal<\/li>\n<li>Save your file in Quicktime<\/li>\n<li>Save at its original size but no larger than 1280 x 720 pixels.\u00a0 No smaller than 720 x 480p.<\/li>\n<li>Use H.264\u00a0 compression codex<\/li>\n<li>Your video should be 2 minutes exactly.\u00a0 Do not include credits EXCEPT your name and video title at the opening of the piece. We will post your full credits on the Freewaves and Out the Window websites, and on our Vimeochannel. (credits will be illegible on the bus screen). For name and title, use a sans-serif 85-point font).
