Michigan State University is seeking candidates for the position of User Ex=
\nperience Researcher at the Usability & Accessibility Center. The position is=
\n full time, annual year, fixed-term starting April 2009 or as soon as possib=

The University: Michigan State University (www.msu.edu), with over 46,000 s=

\n and Toxicology Center and the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory=

Usability & Accessibility Center (UAC): The goal of the UAC is to develop a=
\nnd disseminate innovations in theory, research, and technology in order to e=
\nnhance usability and accessibility in Web and information technology applica=
\ntions. The UAC serves external clients and MSU faculty, students, and organi=
\nzations through consulting, collaborative research, publications, and sponso=
\nrship of workshops and conferences. Its state-of-the-art testing facility is=
\n a resource for undergraduate and graduate courses and curriculums. The UAC =
\nactively participates in local, regional, national, and international usabil=
\nity and accessibility communities of practice.<\/p>\n

Duties: The user experience researcher will be responsible for<\/p>\n
=B7 Conducting user analysis, research and testing, summarizing res=
\nults, and making recommendations.<\/p>\n
=B7 Evaluating Web interface designs for usability and accessibilit=
\ny, including website accessibility compliance inspections, user interface he=
\nuristic reviews, competitive analyses, and formative and summative usability=
\n evaluations.<\/p>\n
=B7 Analyzing results and preparing reports detailing the outcome o=
\nf user experience evaluations with quick turn-around times.<\/p>\n
=B7 Presenting findings with actionable recommendations to clients.<\/p>\n
=B7 Creating information architecture documentation (site architect=
\nures, process flows, wireframes, etc.).<\/p>\n
=B7 Creating and\/or revising web-based user interface prototypes.<\/p>\n
=B7 Identifying opportunities, writing literature reviews, and assi=
\nsting in the preparation of proposals for external grants in the areas of hu=
\nman-computer interaction, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and i=
\nnformation communication technologies.<\/p>\n
=B7 Assisting principal investigators in conducting empirical resea=
\nrch studies, analyzing data, and writing grant reports.<\/p>\n
Professional Qualifications (required)<\/p>\n
=B7 Master=92s degree in human factors, cognitive psychology, human=
\n-computer interaction, or related field.<\/p>\n
=B7 At least two years of proven user research\/usability experience=
\n.<\/p>\n
=B7 Expert knowledge of Section 508 standards and Web Content Acces=
\nsibility Guidelines.<\/p>\n
=B7 Strong technical and analytical skills.<\/p>\n
=B7 Experience conducting user experience evaluations.<\/p>\n
=B7 Empirical research experience, including publication in profess=
\nional journals or technical conference proceedings.<\/p>\n
=B7 Demonstrated expertise in quantitative data analysis, including=
\n SPSS and MATLAB.<\/p>\n
=B7 Experience using eye tracking equipment and software.<\/p>\n
=B7 Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in t=
\neam environments.<\/p>\n
=B7 Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal co=
\nmmunication skills.<\/p>\n

Professional Qualifications (desired)<\/p>\n
=B7 Knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, user interface=
\n design principles, best practices and standards.<\/p>\n
=B7 Working knowledge of XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, and VB.Net.<\/p>\n
=B7 An understanding of issues in structuring and communicating inf=
\normation on the Web.<\/p>\n
=B7 An ability to analyze technical and scientific information and =
\ntranslate it for the intended audience.<\/p>\n
=B7 Experience with usability testing tools.<\/p>\n
=B7 Experience with online website survey tools, including Zoomeran=
\ng, phpQ, or Survey Monkey.<\/p>\n
