In its first two years Avaaz, which=20<br \/>\nmeans =91voice=92 in many languages, has experienced unprecedented growth=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\nto <b>3.4 million members worldwide.<\/b> We use the latest techniques=20<br \/>\nin online and offline organizing, lobbying and fundraising to rapidly=20<br \/>\nmobilize large numbers of people and to effectively impact pressing=20<br \/>\nglobal issues.<\/font>=A0<\/p>\n<p><font>With<\/font><font>=20<br \/>\nsome of the world=92s leading campaigning organizations as founding=20<br \/>\npartners, including MoveOn.org (US), GetUp (Australia), and Oxfam, Avaaz=20<br \/>\nhas been featured in dozens of major media outlets across Europe, Asia=20<br \/>\nand the Americas. During 2007 and 2008, the Avaaz community played a=20<br \/>\nmajor role in global mobilizations around climate change, Burma, Zimbabwe,=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\nthe food crisis, Tibet, the global economic crisis, and conflicts in=20<br \/>\nthe Middle East. The accompanying one-page summary provides more background=<br \/>\n.<\/font>=A0\n<\/p>\n<p><font><b>Job Description<\/b><\/font>=<br \/>\n=A0\n<\/p>\n<p><font>As Media Coordinator, your=20<br \/>\nrole will be to maximize Avaaz&#39;s media profile with the purpose of achi=<br \/>\neving=20<br \/>\nour stated campaigning and organisational objectives. You will help=20<br \/>\nto build the overall media strategy of Avaaz and develop and implement=20<br \/>\nregular issue-specific media campaigns. You will play a central role=20<br \/>\nin one of the most innovative and promising public organizations in=20<br \/>\nthe world today.=A0 <b>The role offers a unique platform from which=20<br \/>\nto develop and pursue large-scale social change efforts.<\/b> <\/font>=A0\n<\/p>\n<p><font>For a list of Avaaz campaigns,=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\nplease see <\/font><font><u>h=<br \/>\nttp:\/\/www.avaaz.org\/en\/report_back_2\/<\/u><\/font><font face=\"3D=\">. <\/font>=A0\n<\/p>\n<p><font>Specifically, responsibilities=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\ninclude:<\/font>=A0<\/p>\n<p><font>Monitoring the=<br \/>\n media=20<br \/>\n  landscape, pitching stories and responding to requests from journalists <font>Facilitating journa=<br \/>\nlists&#39;=20<br \/>\n  communications with Avaaz&#39;s Executive Director and other media spokes=<br \/>\npeople=20<br \/>\n  as appropriate<\/font><font>D=<br \/>\nrafting Avaaz press=20<br \/>\n  releases, advisories and briefing notes<\/font><font>Advising the Avaaz=20<br \/>\n  team on strategies, story generation ideas and talking points<\/font>=<br \/>\n<font>Working with the=20<br \/>\n  Avaaz team to purchase campaign advertising and maximising the media=20<br \/>\n  exposure off the back of it<\/font><font>Creating and publicising=20<br \/>\n  media events, stunts and photo opportunities<\/font><font size=\"3D=\">Working in coalition=20<br \/>\n  with other partner organizations on media and communications strategies <font>Attending internati=<br \/>\nonal\/regional\/national=20<br \/>\n  summits and events to pitch Avaaz spokespeople to reporters and arrange=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\n  press conferences<\/font><font>Managing relationships=20<br \/>\n  with the media and partners in non-English languages<\/font>Maintaining a database=20<br \/>\n  of media contacts and clippings<\/font><font>Acting as media=20<br \/>\n  spokesperson (as required)<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font><b>Qualifications<\/b><\/font>=<br \/>\n=A0\n<\/p>\n<p><font><b>This is a demanding role=20<br \/>\nthat requires talent in a wide range of areas.<\/b> The core competencies=20<br \/>\nwhich any successful candidate will display are:<\/font>=A0<\/p>\n<p><font>Outstanding wr=<br \/>\nitten=20<br \/>\n  and oral communication skills<\/font><font>Excellent news sense=20<br \/>\n  and political savvy<\/font><font>Superior interpersonal=20<br \/>\n  skills with a strong capacity to form networks (bringing media networks=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\n  to the job would be a bonus)<\/font><font>Experience working=20<br \/>\n  with the international media and \/or in a major media market<\/font><font>Excellent understanding=20<br \/>\n  of international affairs and relations<\/font><font>Passion and commitment=20<br \/>\n  to global justice, citizen empowerment and social change<\/font>High professionalism,=20<br \/>\n  self-motivation, efficiency and results-oriented delivery to deadline<font>Strong teamwork=20<br \/>\n  skills, comfortable in a highly collaborative team culture and a hierarch=<br \/>\nical=20<br \/>\n  team structure<\/font><font>F=<br \/>\nluency in French=20<br \/>\n  or Spanish a plus<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font><b>Location<\/b><\/font>=A0\n<\/p>\n<p><font>Avaaz is a virtual organizatio=<br \/>\nn,=20<br \/>\nwith most of our work done over email, telephone, skype and video calling.=<br \/>\n=20<br \/>\nWe have global team retreats three times per year.
