ART 39528: 2D Animation Principles<\/b><\/p>\n
Introduction to the basic principles, techniques, and processes involved in the development of 2D animation. The course focuses on exercises and projects that explore the classical principles of animation as applied in a digital environment. \u00a0This course will introduce students to the principles and techniques required for the development of narrative and concept-based two-dimensional, digital animation projects. Students will create a variety of time-based 2D projects that traverse both traditional (hand-rendered) and digital (software-driven) modes, progressing from flip-books, cel animation, and storyboarding to animatics, sound design, art direction, and character development of animated digital narratives.<\/p>\n
An overview of various 2D styles (including line, rotoscoping, smudge, cut-out) from international animators will allow students to fuse concept with technique in order to produce a final two-dimensional animated short, rooted in composition, character development, narrative, sound, and timing.\u00a0A historical survey of two-dimensional animation will accompany each class demo, allowing students to understand both audience and implication when using animation as a means for messaging.<\/p>\n
