Candidates must have a minimum of a master&#8217;s degree in a field related to the respective courses &#8212; digital media, interaction design, exhibit design, user experience design, etc. Prior college-level teaching experience is preferred, and relevant professional experience also will be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Please see below for descriptions of the individual courses.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1855, TCNJ is a highly selective institution that has earned national recognition for its commitment to excellence. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Introduction to Digital Media<\/p>\n<p>This course introduces students to the fundamentals of digital media production &#8212; still images, video and audio &#8212; while encouraging students to consider their work in the larger context of media literacy, history and ethics, exploring topics such as intellectual property, digital distribution, manipulation, mobile media and more. Students will develop skills in:<br \/>\n\u2022 Digital imaging (primarily Photoshop)<br \/>\n\u2022 Digital video (basic camera, lighting and sound along with capturing and editing in Final Cut Pro)<br \/>\n\u2022 Digital audio (Audacity)<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking faculty for two class sections. One meets on Tuesdays from\u00a012:30-4:20\u00a0and another on Wednesdays from\u00a05:30-9:20. (TCNJ courses are 14-weeks with an additional meeting during finals.) Class time typically combines lecture and discussion, hands-on instruction, peer and faculty critique, and studio time allowing students to work on individual and group projects in close collaboration with the instructor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Introduction to Interactive Computing<\/p>\n<p>This course is an introduction to computing languages for interactive multimedia students, encouraging them to support and amplify their media skills through programming and interactivity. Through intensive laboratory experience using the Processing students learn programming fundamentals including logic, data structures, functions, control structures, libraries and APIs, and networking. Students will:<br \/>\n\u2022 Demonstrate the ability to read, write, analyze and critique basic fundamentals of programming, including: data, algorithms, events, control structures, functions, heuristics, logic, interaction and abstraction.<br \/>\n\u2022 Understand the software design cycle, including: project proposal, writing code, compiling a program, debugging, usability testing, refinement and summary report writing.<br \/>\n\u2022 Work with various media data types, including: bitmap and vector graphics, sound, animation, video and sensors.<br \/>\n\u2022 Demonstrate the ability to problem solve in a team.<\/p>\n<p>The class meets on Tuesdays from\u00a05:30-8:20, with the first meeting on\u00a0August 27. (TCNJ courses are 14-weeks with an additional meeting during finals.) Class time typically combines lecture and discussion, hands-on instruction, peer and faculty critique, and studio time allowing students to work on class projects in close collaboration with the instructor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Interactive Exhibit Design<\/p>\n<p>Interactive and digital technology is transforming the experience of visiting and learning in a museum. This course explores recent trends in museum and exhibit design through lectures, discussions, readings, presentations and on-site visits. Working as a collaborative design studio, students will also design and build interactive systems for TCNJ&#8217;s Sarnoff Collection &#8212; an on-campus museum drawing from over 6,000 artifacts that document major developments in communication and electronics in the 20th century. These systems are intended to expand the museum&#8217;s message, enhance the visitors&#8217; experience, and extend that experience beyond the walls of the museum. Students will furthermore:<br \/>\n\u2022 Apply their skills in digital media production, writing, interaction design and programming to development of a system with a real-world audience and real-world implications;<br \/>\n\u2022 Consider the challenges of designing interactive media for a group experience in a particular physical space;<br \/>\n\u2022 Analyze and critique similar software and installations;<br \/>\n\u2022 Employ industry-standard tools as well as develop skills and strategies for managing a long-term collaborative project;<br \/>\n\u2022 Learn to integrate their own skills, techniques and processes with that of their classmates;<br \/>\n\u2022 Learn to articulate and advocate for their ideas in a collaborative setting;<br \/>\n\u2022 Get acquainted with the functions and processes of a real-world design studio.<\/p>\n<p>The class meets on Thursdays from\u00a05:30-9:20, with the first meeting on\u00a0August 29.
