The Toolbox is a website aimed at making it easier to discover ways to\u00a0improve your world and other\u2019s through technology. Acting as an app<\/div>\n
store and news site, The Toolbox will blend compelling stories and smart\u00a0recommendations focused on the intersection of social change and\u00a0technology.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
POSITION<\/div>\n
As the Editor of the Toolbox site you are expected to create a tone. We need a voice\u00a0and style to our content. You will also manage bloggers and constantly be seeking\u00a0new content on and offline to tell engaging stories around the intersection of\u00a0technology and social change.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
WHAT WE EXPECT<\/div>\n
\u2022 Creative content. Developing and disseminating<\/div>\n
\u2022 Creating campaigns. Linking current events and hot topics in our interest category (tech and\u00a0social good) and translating it to actionable steps for readers and collections of relevant tools.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Targeting the audience. Using proactive and visionary thought leadership to creatively apply\u00a0our interests to our target audience<\/div>\n
\u2022 Collaborating. with bloggers, interns, consultants, and new outlets.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Strategic planning. implementing business objectives in regard to public relations and\u00a0communication<\/div>\n
\u2022 Brand management. Relaying our branding throughout all of our communications<\/div>\n
\u2022 Managing teams. responsible for writing and editing press releases, media materials, and\u00a0statements<\/div>\n
\u2022 Clear communication skills.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Social Media. Clear understanding of popular social media tools.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
WHO WE EXPECT<\/div>\n
\u2022 A sharp decision maker. There are 50 interesting ideas on the table, and 10 of them might\u00a0actually move the needle if executed right. Which 5 of them should we pursue this month?<\/div>\n
\u2022 Visionary. Where should we be in six months? Two years? What should we build now to help\u00a0inform our long-term roadmap? What are we missing?<\/div>\n
\u2022 Great at writing a clear email and leading a tight meeting. We\u2019re a distributed company,\u00a0which means we do a lot of our work through email, collaborative documents, and conference\u00a0calls. You have to be able to motivate and guide a team without daily face-to-face interaction.<\/div>\n
(It\u2019s fine if you\u2019ve never done it before, though.)<\/div>\n
\u2022 Metrics-driven. You\u2019re obsessed with optimization, rigorous about measurement, and skeptical\u00a0about unexplained success.<\/div>\n

THETOOLBOX.ORG<\/a>\u00a0EDITOR POSITIONSKILLS<\/div>\n
\u2022 You can write user stories and acceptance criteria, maintain a queue of potential blog posts\u00a0and bloggers, prioritize tasks, manage bug reports etc.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Knack for user research.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Great, approachable, fun writing style. If we have a bunch of amazing bloggers with really\u00a0distinct voices and styles, can you be the voice of our product?<\/div>\n
\u2022 Deep understanding of digital-native media businesses. Can you channel the needs of not\u00a0just editors but business development and audience development people as well?<\/div>\n
\u2022 Ability to use CMS backends. Comfortable with things like Tumblr, WordPress, etc…<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
COMMITMENT<\/div>\n
This position will start as freelance and will require 10 to 15 hours of your time to start, with the\u00a0possibility of turning into a full-time position in three months (or less) if the vertical is going well\u00a0and we feel that you\u2019re the right fit. Please do not apply if you don\u2019t have the desire or capacity to\u00a0become a full-time employee down the road.<\/div>\n
