The
\n>> first SIGGRAPH Asia, in December in Singapore, quickly established
\n>> SIGGRAPH’s new event in Asia as one of the world’s two leading
\n>> annual showcases for the next wave of interactive technologies.
\n>> In Yokohama, SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 will present technological
\n>> innovations that will change the way we work, live, and play. Let
\n>> your work be experienced by thousands of attendees from throughout
\n>> the world!
\n>>
\n>> Emerging Technologies shares an overall theme with the Art
\n>> Gallery: Adaptation. For SIGGRAPH Asia 2009, we are seeking works
\n>> that show how digital technology adapts, or can help us adapt, to
\n>> a world in flux. Adaptation can have many meanings, from machines
\n>> that repair themselves under stress to technologies that help
\n>> humans survive in adverse conditions. Adaptations can also be
\n>> unexpected or unwanted. We are particularly interested in seeing
\n>> examples of how computer graphics and interactive techniques are
\n>> evolving to adapt to new conditions: technical, social,
\n>> environmental, or something else entirely.
\n>>
\n>> We are looking for creative, innovative technologies and
\n>> applications in many fields, including:
\n>>
\n>> * Audio
\n>> * Biotech and biologically inspired technology
\n>> * Computer graphics and animation
\n>> * Context-aware applications
\n>> * Design
\n>> * Displays
\n>> * Games
\n>> * High-speed networking
\n>> * Interaction technology
\n>> * Mobile technology
\n>> * Physical computing
\n>> * Robots
\n>> * Ubiquitous computing
\n>> * Virtual and mixed reality
\n>>
\n>> Feel free to submit even if your work is not covered by the above
\n>> list! If it is new, cool, and exciting, we want to see it at
\n>> SIGGRAPH Asia 2009!
\n>>
\n>> The main form of presentation at Emerging Technologies is live,
\n>> working, hands-on demonstrations. It is essential that your work
\n>> can be effectively demonstrated by the time the conference opens
\n>> in December. To ensure this, the submission process requires all
\n>> submitters to provide extensive technical, logistical, and
\n>> practical documentation. Running an Emerging Technologies demo is
\n>> hard work, but it is also very rewarding. Your work will be
\n>> experienced by thousands of people, and thousands more will learn
\n>> about it in international media reports.
\n>>
\n>> We invite submissions from academic institutions, corporations,
\n>> and individuals. All submissions will be reviewed by experts in
\n>> relevant fields, and the final selections will be made by a jury.
\n>> In addition to submitted works, a portion of the exhibition will
\n>> be curated; please contact the Emerging Technologies Chair if you
\n>> have suggestions for curated works! Juried and curated works will
\n>> be clearly distinguished in the conference program.
\n>>
\n>> The members of the SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 Emerging Technologies Jury are:
\n>>
\n>> Mark Billinghurst, HIT Lab New Zealand
\n>> Cynthia Breazeal, MIT Media Lab
\n>> Paul Debevec, USC Institute for Creative Technologies
\n>> Tom Igoe, New York University
\n>> Jun Rekimoto, The University of Tokyo
\n>> Kimiko Ryokai, University of California, Berkeley
\n>> Albrecht Schmidt, University of Duisburg-Essen
\n>> Annika Waern, Interactive Institute
\n>>
\n>> Accepted Emerging Technologies works will be presented as on-going
\n>> demonstrations throughout SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 in Yokohama.
\n>> Technical support will be provided to make the most of each demo.
\n>> If your work is accepted, you will have the opportunity to give a
\n>> technical presentation, advertised in the conference program.
\n>> Press tours and other media outreach will be organized to further
\n>> increase awareness and publicity. A promotional video will be
\n>> widely distributed, and a description of each exhibit will be
\n>> published online and in a printed catalog. Additionally, we will
\n>> seek to offer selected works the opportunity to be published as
\n>> peer-reviewed papers in an edited special issue of an academic
\n>> journal.
\n>>
\n>> The submission deadline is 5 June, 23:59 UTC\/GMT. The jury’s
\n>> decisions will be announced in early August.
\n>> Full submission details can be found at: \/www.siggraph.org\/
\n>> asia2009\/for_presenters\/etech\/index.php
\n>>
\n>> We look forward to seeing your submission for SIGGRAPH Asia 2009
\n>> Emerging Technologies!
\n>>
\n>> Lars Erik Holmquist
\n>> Emerging Technologies Chair
\n>> Swedish Institute of Computer Science and S<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
> >> Call for participation: >> >> >> EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES: ADAPTATION >> >> SIGGRAPHA ASIA 2009 >> Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama, Japan >> 16-19 December 2009…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,14,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1431","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-call","category-conference","category-listserv","entry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1431","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1431"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1431\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1431"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1431"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1431"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
