We\u00a0offer MA and PhD programs in the study of the cultural history of the material world and are committed\u00a0to the encyclopedic study of things, drawing on methodologies and approaches from art and design\u00a0history, history of technology, philosophy, anthropology, and archaeology and cultural history.<\/p>\n<p>The world renowned Gallery organizes four exhibitions during the academic year. Our exhibitions\u00a0examine the material evidence of cultures extending from ancient world to the present inclusive of\u00a0Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Each exhibition is accompanied by a scholarly book published in\u00a0collaboration with, or distributed by, Yale University Press.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Summary<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>The Digital Designer and Website Manager works under the Art Director to maintain and update the\u00a0existing BGC website, to create digital materials for the BGC, and to develop the social media presence\u00a0of the BGC.<\/p>\n<p>Characteristics, Duties &amp; Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manage the BGC Website<\/strong>. In the short term this includes working with the Design and Web Assistant to\u00a0update the website using our CMS. This position will work with various parties within the BGC to track\u00a0and manage production of content for the website in the format it is needed. In the longer term we would\u00a0like to both give archived materials from e-books to video a larger presence on the website and to develop\u00a0a new website which better serves the needs of the BGC. This position would work with the Art Director\u00a0to achieve those goals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital Design<\/strong>. Design of small scale sites developed parallel to the main BGC site, html emails, and\u00a0other digital content as needed, with the help of the Design and Web Assistant. Communicating with\u00a0outside developers to realize sites and applications from comps. Transitioning printed books to the\u00a0website as e-books or related applications, and developing the role of this digital content on the BGC&#8217;s\u00a0website with the Art Director.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manage the BGC&#8217;s social media presence<\/strong>. Research and strategy for the BGC&#8217;s social media\u00a0presence. Update social media streams with the help of the Design and Web Assistant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Videography, photography, and other web related tasks as needed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Required Qualifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HTML\/CSS, basic Javascript. Introductory knowledge of PHP and MySQL.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with content management systems including platforms such as WordPress, Drupal,\u00a0Joomla, Omeka, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Illustrator<\/li>\n<li>Strong design skills demonstrated by a portfolio<\/li>\n<li>Experience communicating with developers to produce websites and applications from design\u00a0comps<\/li>\n<li>Experience developing and managing social media strategies<\/li>\n<li>Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively<\/li>\n<li>Written and oral communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Problem solving skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to learn new technologies as needed<\/li>\n<li>Ability to produce thoughtful work under frequent deadlines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume and contact information for three references to\u00a0dd@bgc.bard.edu.
