Required teaching includes Design and Visual Communication classes at all levels. Possible opportunities include developing and teaching introductory curriculum (Introduction to Design and Introduction to Typography); developing service learning opportunities; Web, Interaction and\/or Mobile App Design; Information Graphics; Design Entrepreneurship; Product Design. Collaborative interdisciplinary opportunities exist between DVC\u00a0and Engineering, Architecture, Public Health, SOIS and other departments and schools on UWM\u2019s campus. Potential to work with international programs.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in Department of Art and Design\u2019s current and developing graduate program is expected. Service expectations include participation in curriculum development, course scheduling, community outreach, budget, student advising and participation in Design and Visual Communication Portfolio Review. Faculty members are expected to maintain active creative, professional or scholarly research in their field and actively contribute to the department, school, and university through committee service and faculty-shared governance responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications: <\/strong><br \/>\nMFA or equivalent terminal degree is required (applicant must have terminal degree [MFA or equivalent] by the start of the appointment). Digital expertise required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications: <\/strong><br \/>\nPrevious college teaching experience is preferred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other preferred qualifications include: <\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 outstanding typographic skills<br \/>\n\u2022 excellent ideation and critical thinking skills<br \/>\n\u2022 strong teaching skills at all levels of undergraduate design curriculum and graduate studio curriculum<br \/>\n\u2022 knowledge of communication theory and visual literacy<br \/>\n\u2022 experience with design process, design thinking, strategies and methodologies for problemidentification and problem-solving<br \/>\n\u2022 evidence of creative, scholarly or professional research potential<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Description: <\/strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Art &amp; Design has 24 full-time faculty members and 12 full-time academic staff members and offers BA, BFA, MA and MFA degrees in the areas of Ceramics, Cross-Disciplinary Studio, Design and Visual Communication, Digital Studio Practice, Fibers, Jewelry\/Metalsmithing, Painting\/Drawing, Photography, Print\/Narrative Forms, and Sculpture, as well as BFA and MS<br \/>\ndegrees in Art Education.<\/p>\n<p>The Peck School of the Arts (PSOA), with more than 2000 majors, is one of the largest and most exciting programs in the arts in the state and region. PSOA is home to the newly established Design Research Institute and has a legacy of outstanding programs in Art &amp; Design, Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, and a professional gallery, INOVA, the Institute of Visual Arts.
