One of North America&#8217;s leading schools for the arts, The Faculty of Fine<br \/>\nArts offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Dance, Design, Digital<br \/>\nMedia, Film, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts. &lt;finearts.yorku.ca&gt;<\/p>\n<p>This pan-faculty position will attract a well-established, hybrid research-practitioner<br \/>\nwith an innovative programme of research and technology development in the area<br \/>\nof digital performance, which explores how digital media is transforming<br \/>\nperformance practice, as well as how the experience of digitally mediated<br \/>\nperformance is increasingly animating and transforming cultural expression.<br \/>\nThe successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise examining, contributing<br \/>\nto the development of, and defining new directions in one or more of the following:<br \/>\n(1) the creation and use of digital technologies in live and recorded performance for<br \/>\ndance, moving image, music, performance art, and theatre (e.g. augmented,<br \/>\nmultimedia and immersive environments for the expanded stage, embedded and<br \/>\ninteractive performance systems, real-time ambisonic and wavefront synthesis,<br \/>\nvirtual reality, motion capture, interactive digital video, mechatronics, robotics, and<br \/>\ntelepresence in performance); (2) the investigation and creation of technologies that<br \/>\nfacilitate individual and collective performance of identity and social engagement<br \/>\nthrough their enactment, reading, and contextualization in digitally mediated<br \/>\nenvironments (e.g. online interactive and social networks, distributed reality,<br \/>\nlocative media and mobile technologies, apps development, wearable technology<br \/>\nand embodied interaction).<\/p>\n<p>Linked to the new University Strategic Research Plan, which identifies Digital<br \/>\nCultures as a compelling opportunity for development by pushing \u201ctechnological<br \/>\nboundaries while critically investigating the social and cultural impacts\u201d of new<br \/>\ntechnologies on human activity and interaction. The successful candidate will play<br \/>\nan active role in, Sensorium: Centre for Digital Arts and Technology Research, a new<br \/>\nresearch unit based in the Faculty of Fine Arts &lt;finearts.yorku.ca\/sensorium\/&gt;.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in the areas of Performance,<br \/>\nTheatre and Performance Studies, Dance, Music, Film and Media Studies, Digital<br \/>\nMedia, or a related Fine Arts or Computer Science discipline, an outstanding<br \/>\nresearch record, demonstrated excellence or the potential for excellence in<br \/>\nteaching, and must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate<br \/>\nStudies. The candidate is expected to provide leadership by fostering collaborative<br \/>\nresearch, securing external funding, making links across art, computer science and<br \/>\nengineering, and generating national and international academic, community and<br \/>\nindustry partnerships. The Chairholder will be placed in a Department(s) which most<br \/>\nclosely reflects their experience.<\/p>\n<p>This appointment is subject to approval by the CRC program review process. The<br \/>\nCanada Research Chairs program was established by the Government of Canada to<br \/>\nenable Canadian universities to achieve the highest levels of research excellence in<br \/>\nthe global, knowledge-based economy. Tier 2 Chairs have five-year terms, are<br \/>\nrenewable once, and are intended for exceptional emerging researchers (fewer than<br \/>\n10 years post terminal degree) who have the acknowledged potential to lead their<br \/>\nfield of research.
