We\u2019re looking for a programmer with experience working with PhoneGap or another similar cross-platform mobile framework who is interested in a deep collaborative process with CUP and a designer.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #144fae;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>CUP is a nonprofit organization that uses the power of design and art to increase meaningful civic engagement, particularly among historically under-represented communities. CUP collaborates with designers, educators, advocates, students, and communities to make educational tools that demystify complex policy and planning issues. We believe that increasing our understanding of how these systems work is the first step to better, more equitable, and more diverse community participation.<br \/>\nFind out more about our work at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.welcometocup.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">welcometoCUP.org<\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #144fae;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>How much work will it be?<\/b><br \/>\nThis will be a very collaborative process. We imagine we\u2019ll have an intensive first week together, working 40 hours as a team. After that, we expect to meet once every two weeks, from February through June, 2014.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #144fae;\"><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><b>Tell me more\u2026<\/b><br \/>\nUrban Investigations are hands-on afterschool programs that use collaborative research and design to enable high school students to explore questions about how the city works. Urban Investigations take on questions like \u201cWhere does my garbage go?\u201d or \u201cWho owns the Internet?\u201d The \u201cMake Your Own Urban Investigation\u201d apps will break down CUP\u2019s methods and help educators create CUP-style youth education projects outside of New York City. The apps will be distributed to public high school teachers, independent teaching artists, and arts and educational institutions across the country.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #144fae;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>To learn more about Urban Investigations, visit:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.welcometocup.org\/Projects\/UrbanInvestigations\" target=\"_blank\">welcometocup.org\/<wbr \/>Projects\/UrbanInvestigations<\/a><br \/>\nThis call is for a programmer to work on the first app with us, which covers interview techniques\u2014why interviews are important, how to train students to conduct them, and how to get the most out of them. But we\u2019d like to work with you on future apps in the series if you are interested.<br \/>\nThe ideal candidate will have:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #144fae;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Expertise working with a client and visual designers in an agile way, incorporating feedback from both CUP and stakeholders in short, iterative cycles<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Experience working with clients in a creative environment<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Experience with PhoneGap or another similar cross-platform mobile framework, as we want to make the \u201cMake Your Own Urban Investigation\u201d app available on both iOS and Android devices.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #144fae;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>In terms of scope, there will be roughly 25 unique, interactive views. Each view will have custom user interface with animations. There will be embedded audio and video content, and some online video content via youtube. The app will not require any user accounts or social integration. We are open to slicing assets in-house from the master design files, or having the programmer slice assets (in your proposal, please specify which you prefer.
