2nd ACM SIGPLAN International Workshop on
\nFunctional Art, Music, Modelling and Design<\/p>\n

The ACM SIGPLAN International Workshop on Functional Art,
\nMusic, Modelling and Design (FARM) gathers together people
\nwho are harnessing functional techniques in the pursuit of
\ncreativity and expression.<\/p>\n
Functional Programming has emerged as a mainstream software
\ndevelopment paradigm, and its artistic and creative use is
\nbooming. A growing number of software toolkits, frameworks
\nand environments for art, music and design now employ
\nfunctional programming languages and techniques. FARM is a
\nforum for exploration and critical evaluation of these
\ndevelopments, for example to consider potential benefits of
\ngreater consistency, tersity, and closer mapping to a
\nproblem domain.<\/p>\n
FARM encourages submissions from across art, craft and
\ndesign, including textiles, visual art, music, 3D sculpture,
\nanimation, GUIs, video games, 3D printing and architectural
\nmodels, choreography, poetry, and even VLSI layouts, GPU
\nconfigurations, or mechanical engineering designs. The
\nlanguage used need not be purely functional (\u201cmostly
\nfunctional\u201d is fine), and may be manifested as a domain
\nspecific language or tool. Theoretical foundations, language
\ndesign, implementation issues, and applications in industry
\nor the arts are all within the scope of the workshop.<\/p>\n
Submissions are invited in two categories:<\/p>\n
* Full papers<\/p>\n
5 to 12 pages using the ACM SIGPLAN template. FARM 2014
\nis an interdisciplinary conference, so a wide range of
\napproaches are encouraged and we recognize that the
\nappropriate length of a paper may vary considerably
\ndepending on the approach. However, all submissions must
\npropose an original contribution to the FARM theme, cite
\nrelevant previous work, and apply appropriate research
\nmethods.<\/p>\n
* Demo abstracts<\/p>\n
Demo abstracts should describe the demonstration and its
\ncontext, connecting it with the themes of FARM. A demo
\ncould be in the form of a short (10-20 minute) tutorial,
\npresentation of work-in-progress, an exhibition of some
\nwork, or even a performance. Abstracts should be no
\nlonger than 2 pages, using the ACM SIGPLAN template and
\nwill be subject to a light-touch peer review.<\/p>\n
