Makerspace Facilitator<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP) partners with NYC public high<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
schools and middle schools in the Brooklyn community to offer academic support,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
college access, work-readiness, social justice and arts-based programs. Working from the<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Psychology Department at Brooklyn College, we focus on relationship-building first and<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
programming second. The main hub for BCCP is the Brooklyn College Art Lab (BCAL),<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
a 6900 sq. ft. youth-dedicated, drop-in site on the Brooklyn College campus.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Makerspace Facilitator will work closely with Deputy Director and BCAL Site Director<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and BCCP team to design and build our makerspace. You will also work in conjunction<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
with other teaching arts and BCCP partners throughout the year.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The job will start with 20 \u2013 40 hours spread out between June and July to order<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
equipment and help pre-plan the maker camp. In August, the BCCP Design team will run<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
a maker camp and co-design charrette to create the space and prototype how the space is<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
used. You will be closely involved in this process and hours will go up to 25-30 per week<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
in August. September 2014-through June 2015, hours will start at 19 per week and could<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
rise based on funding.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Principal Responsibilities:<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
1. Facilitate maker workshops with young people that cross-sect digital and physical<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
making platforms<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
2. Purchase, order, organize, instruct and maintain Makerspace tools and equipment<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
including Macintosh computers, 3-D printer, laser cutters and ancillary electronics<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and analogue supplies. Develop and enhance Makerspace information signage,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
window displays and organization.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
3. Supervise, train and schedule Makerspace interns and college-level staff<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
4. Assist in maintaining ongoing evaluation of space<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
5. Collaborate with BCCP staff and outside partners to develop maker education<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
programming<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
6. Research, develop and prototype maker activities<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Skills and Experience:<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Commitment to the BCCP philosophy and mission of relationship-building,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
recognizing assets in youth and experiential learning<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Three years experience working with youth in an experiential learning<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
environment. E.g. summer camp counselor, museum facilitator, etc.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Lifelong learner. You like to know how the world around us works.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Maker! Tell us about your maker skill(s) \u2013 be it 3-D design, woodworking,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
cooking, coding, electronics, sewing, or some other way you entertain yourself<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and others with your creativity.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Comfortable with the use of and teaching of hand tools, electronics, computer<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
software, hardware and various other technologies<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Strong communications skills. The ability to express ideas clearly, both in written<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and oral form.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Be solutions-based<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Effective collaborator \u2013 experience working with teams<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
