About ScriptEd<\/p>\n
Founded in 2012, ScriptEd is a start-up non-profit organization that aims to\u00a0Volunteer Training Each ScriptEd volunteer must participate in a new volunteer training and\u00a0Application To apply to become a ScriptEd Volunteer, please complete our new\u00a0increase access to careers in technology by offering computer-programming\u00a0classes in low-income high schools. ScriptEd\u2019s courses are taught by\u00a0experienced computer programming professionals on a volunteer basis,\u00a0ensuring that students not only have exposure to the most up-to-date knowledge available, but also role models and potential mentors in the\u00a0field. In addition, ScriptEd links students to internship opportunities to\u00a0gain professional experience in which to apply their coding skills.<\/p>\n
What do we teach?<\/p>\n
ScriptEd\u2019s Foundations course is a yearlong curriculum that introduces\u00a0students to the fundamentals of Front End Web Development. Our second\u00a0year students take a course in Back End Development.<\/p>\n
Volunteer\u00a0Commitment<\/p>\n
ScriptEd classes are held twice weekly throughout the school year. \u00a0Depending on your school placement, classes are held either in the morning\u00a0during the school day (approximately 8:00 am \u2013 9:30 am), or during after-school hours (approximately 3:30 to 5:00 pm). Time varies by school. To\u00a0allow for flexibility in your volunteer commitment, we place approximately\u00a04 volunteers at each school.<\/p>\n
Volunteers must commit to teach either one or two days per week. Each\u00a0school will have a designated Lead Volunteer.<\/p>\n
Volunteer Training<\/p>\n
Each ScriptEd volunteer must participate in a new volunteer training and\u00a0must complete our partner schools\u2019 required fingerprinting and background\u00a0checks. A ScriptEd staff member will contact you about each of these\u00a0requirements after you apply to volunteer.<\/p>\n
