{"id":15678,"date":"2014-06-05T14:40:46","date_gmt":"2014-06-05T18:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=15678"},"modified":"2014-06-05T14:40:46","modified_gmt":"2014-06-05T18:40:46","slug":"job-stipend-positions-for-nyc-summer-camp-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2014\/06\/05\/job-stipend-positions-for-nyc-summer-camp-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"[JOB] Stipend positions for NYC summer camp programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stipend Available: $1,000.00\u2014plus itemized metrocard and supply expenses reimbursed!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (NYC DYCD) \u00a0and The NY \u00a0Academy of Sciences (NYAS) is providing middle schoolers at up to 20 DYCD funded summer camp programs an opportunity to learn about nutrition and health in a fun, engaging way this summer 2014.\u00a0 The summer project called FOOD DETECTIVES runs for six-weeks and we are seeking scientists and folks who have a life science background to mentor middle school youth and teach a nutrition curriculum developed by NYAS.\u00a0 Classes will be taught in an informal environment, are hands-on and connected to field visits to NYC\u2019s urban farms:\u00a0 (1)Brooklyn Grange \u2013 Brooklyn, (2) Brooklyn Grange \u2013 Long Island City and (3)Randalls Island Urban Farm.\u00a0 Students will also be taking pictures of organisms in nature when they go on field trips to upload to Project Noah, a web platform for documenting organisms found globally.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Location of summer camp programs:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1970 West Farm Road Bronx New York 10460<\/p>\n<p>167-01 Gothic Drive Queens NY 11432<\/p>\n<p>125 Stuyvesant Avenue Brooklyn NY 11221<\/p>\n<p>138-50 Lafayette Street Queens NY 11417<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Program Design<\/p>\n<p>The Food Connection (July 7- August 15)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend a Nutrition curriculum training\/refresher from\u00a010AM-3PM\u00a0at the New York Academy of Sciences. We will have a supply kit sent to you.<\/li>\n<li>Partners will co-teach one-hour classes twice per week. Class scheduling will be handled between mentors and directors of summer camp programs.\u00a0 There will be 12, 1 hour sessions in total delivered across the six weeks. Sessions are scheduled between mentors and their host-sites, and should have flexibility.<\/li>\n<li>Students will attend 3 half day field trips to the closest Urban farms run in Brooklyn, Queens, or Randall\u2019s Island on 3 consecutive Tuesdays or Thursdays with their classes.<\/li>\n<li>There will also be an additional field trip, funded by the NYAS.
