TECHNICAL DIRECTOR PORTLAND<\/p>\n
Second Story conceptualizes, designs, and develops interactive media experiences<\/p>\n

Second Story is looking for a Technical Director to lead the Portland studio\u2019s technical team. We are<\/p>\n
seeking an experienced technologist with a passion for managing teams, growing talent, and using<\/p>\n
both new and existing technologies to deliver groundbreaking user experiences through our lab-driven<\/p>\n
process. We are looking for someone passionate about the convergence of art and technology who<\/p>\n
agrees that \u2018improvisation is the mechanism for adaptation\u2019 and who continuously asks why,<\/p>\n
understanding that \u2018just because we can, doesn\u2019t mean we should\u2019.<\/p>\n
The Technical Director is a passionate do\u2019er and a technologist at heart, savvy in applying process<\/p>\n
methodology to warrant quality deliveries and able to help concept, implement, and take the lead on<\/p>\n
technology. S\/he is a leader and thought provoker, a mentor and coach who is comfortable managing<\/p>\n
an established, experienced technology team.<\/p>\n
The Technical Director supports the Technical Leads in delivery of all media experiences and lab<\/p>\n
initiatives, working with the Portland leadership team to ensure technology choices and execution<\/p>\n
inform and match creative vision, schedule, and budget.<\/p>\n
The Technical Director is responsible for the professional growth of the technical team, enabling<\/p>\n
Technical Leads to act as crucial links in defining what\u2019s possible and what\u2019s next for the studio. S\/he<\/p>\n
ensures the technical team works as an equal collaborator within interdisciplinary project teams of<\/p>\n
designers, producers, and engineers.<\/p>\n
The Technical Director is responsible for optimal operational efficiencies of the technical team,<\/p>\n
informing and matching resources to tasks, planning staffing and recruiting, facilitating regular<\/p>\n
communication on progress, and proactively resolving issues and process bottlenecks. The Technical<\/p>\n
Director is a core member of the studio who collaborates with teams of designers, producers, and<\/p>\n
strategists. Day-to-day tasks include working with developers and producers to inform estimates,<\/p>\n
working with developers to produce production plans, ensuring production plans are followed and<\/p>\n
continue to match creative vision and project scope, and working with teams to adjust as necessary.<\/p>\n
THE TECHNICAL DIRECT OR MUST BE:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u2022 An effective communicator and collaborator with a proven history of successful<\/p>\n
collaboration with designers, producers, developers, engineers, fabricators, and contractors.<\/p>\n
\u2022 An experienced manager with 5+ years of experience leading technology teams in<\/p>\n
interdisciplinary creative environments. Comfortable growing both senior and junior team<\/p>\n
members, managing contractors, and taking a lead role in defining and warranting best<\/p>\n
practices in software engineering.<\/p>\n
\u2022 A software engineer with 10+ years of experience building interactive experiences in a<\/p>\n
combination of languages: c++, c#, java, actionscript, javascript, python, and php.<\/p>\n
\u2022 A technology-agnostic software architect who shows an understanding of the value of<\/p>\n
building experiences within frameworks, with an aversion to reinventing the wheel.<\/p>\n
\u2022 A practical, pragmatic innovator whose solutions elicit responses that justify the effort<\/p>\n
and expense.<\/p>\n
