DIGITAL DESIGN STUDIO TECHNICIAN<\/p>\n
The Digital Design Studio Technician directs and manages the technical<\/p>\n
infrastructure of the Digital Design Studio (DDS), teaches one elective studio course<\/p>\n
per year, supports curricular digital projects, and facilitates visual work created by<\/p>\n
students for classes, and faculty in their teaching. The position combines technical<\/p>\n
administration with hands-on instruction in a Studio Arts context. The initial<\/p>\n
appointment will be for 2.5 years beginning January 2015, renewable based on<\/p>\n
funding and performance. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Although a<\/p>\n
staff position, the Technician will also hold the title of \u201cVisiting Assistant Professor\u201d<\/p>\n
within the Art and Art History Department. S\/he will report to the Dean of Arts and<\/p>\n
Humanities.<\/p>\n
Principal Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Digital Project Support: Facilitates faculty and student use of digital applications<\/p>\n
that are central to the conduct of studio curricula, i.e., photographic editing and<\/p>\n
compositing, printmaking, sculptural and painted media, 3-D modeling, and digital<\/p>\n
design computer programs. Troubleshoots digital print output and application co-
\noperability as well as advanced technical solutions upon faculty or student request.<\/p>\n
Provides presentation and exhibition assistance, particularly for Senior Thesis<\/p>\n
students (i.e., mounted output, multimedia logistics).<\/p>\n
Studio and Classroom Support: Oversees maintenance of DDS, and assists<\/p>\n
with maintenance of additional digital classroom. Responsible for calibrating and<\/p>\n
managing DDS-based equipment, including computers, printers, and scanners.<\/p>\n
Maintains printing log, stocking of related supplies, and billing. Trains and<\/p>\n
supervises student monitors. Tracks industry developments and recommends the<\/p>\n
purchase of new and\/or updated technologies.<\/p>\n
Instruction\/Presentation: Provides leadership in the design, implementation<\/p>\n
and management of digital arts technologies and their innovative applications in<\/p>\n
teaching, learning and creative practice. Conducts hands-on training workshops<\/p>\n
and one-to-one instruction sessions on visual arts digital technology and software<\/p>\n
for students and faculty. Presents group demonstrations for faculty, staff, students,<\/p>\n
and visitors.<\/p>\n
Teaching: Develops a curriculum and teaches one elective studio in digital media<\/p>\n
during Summer Session or as needed.<\/p>\n
Collaboration: The Digital Design Studio Technician will coordinate day-to-
\nday operations in the DDS with its Faculty Advisory Board. S\/he will also work<\/p>\n
closely with Wesleyan\u2019s Information Technology staff in order to coordinate digital<\/p>\n
collections, image management and deployment, software licensing, and computer<\/p>\n
support, among other things.<\/p>\n
Qualifications:<\/p>\n
Master of Fine Arts degree in an arts related field and a minimum of one year of<\/p>\n
relevant experience and expertise in Adobe Suite and Final Cut Pro (or equivalent)<\/p>\n
are required. Additionally, relevant teaching experience, expertise in Autocad (or<\/p>\n
equivalent), Rhino3D (or equivalent), 3D printing\/prototyping, and web design<\/p>\n
software are preferred.<\/p>\n
