Assistant Professor of Graphic Design<\/p>\n
The Department of Art at Appalachian State University\u00a0invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month\u00a0faculty position in Graphic Design at the rank of Assistant\u00a0Professor beginning Fall 2015.<\/p>\n
We are seeking a colleague who is knowledgeable about\u00a0contemporary art and design issues and interested in\u00a0extending the practice of design beyond traditional\u00a0boundaries. The BFA Graphic Design program is strongly\u00a0rooted in design process, typography, visual systems and\u00a0design thinking. Our goal is to produce designers with a\u00a0strong, personal voice who can practice design in a variety\u00a0of settings, navigate increasingly complex design problems,\u00a0and contribute to positive social change.<\/p>\n
Candidates are expected to teach three courses per\u00a0semester, which will include all areas of graphic design,\u00a0and may include, based upon the successful candidates\u00a0skills and interests, studio art, foundations, drawing,\u00a0digital media, general education, or other related areas.<\/p>\n
We are interested in a colleague who is forward-thinking\u00a0and willing to bridge design and studio art. Professional\u00a0experience in the field and within interdisciplinary contexts\u00a0is also desirable.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities include an active program of scholarship\u00a0and creative activities, student advisement, curriculum\u00a0development, and possible online instruction and\/or\u00a0instruction at off-campus sites. University and professional\u00a0service is expected.<\/p>\n
Minimum qualifications for this position are:<\/p>\n
\u00bb A terminal degree in graphic design, visual\u00a0communication design, interactive design or equivalent<\/p>\n
\u00bb Experience with design solutions for print, interactive\u00a0and emerging media<\/p>\n
\u00bb Proficiency with technologies relevant to graphic design\u00a0and digital media (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud.)<\/p>\n
\u00bb Two years or more college-level teaching experience is\u00a0preferred<\/p>\n
