{"id":16318,"date":"2014-12-17T11:28:28","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T16:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=16318"},"modified":"2014-12-17T11:28:28","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T16:28:28","slug":"job-summer-math-faculty-for-talented-underserved-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2014\/12\/17\/job-summer-math-faculty-for-talented-underserved-students\/","title":{"rendered":"[JOB] Summer Math Faculty for Talented, Underserved Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Summer Math Faculty for Talented, Underserved Students<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This summer, change the lives of talented 7th-grade students from underserved backgrounds: teach them what mathematics really is.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Summer Program in Mathematical Problem Solving, a project of the Art of Problem Solving Foundation, is seeking faculty for a program that gives everyone a chance to excel in mathematics.\u00a0 Faculty design and teach their own courses to bright but underserved middle school students.\u00a0 Courses can be pure math (such as number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, etc.); applied math (such as circuit design, astrophysics, or programming); or problem solving (both contest-based and more general).\u00a0 Our students have tremendous potential and a strong ability for abstract reasoning, but they have not had the same training as more affluent peers, and this is their chance to achieve at the highest levels.\u00a0 They are devoted, doing seven hours of math per day (and loving it).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All instructors must be available\u00a0July 2 through July 29\u00a0and must be available to prepare their classes prior to the program. We will provide mentorship, textbooks, and other resources as needed.\u00a0 We are looking for those with an exceptional mathematics background and strong teaching experience.
