Job Summary<\/p>\n
The Design Program at the University of San Francisco (USF) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Digital Design at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin August 2015.\u00a0 Situated within the Department of Art + Architecture, the Design Program at USF merges innovative graphic design with digital and interactive media into a dynamic interdisciplinary curriculum.\u00a0 By learning through an expanded definition of design, our students gain comprehensive experience with a wide range of process-oriented skills, including conceptual development, visual rhetoric, formal experimentation, and critical thinking.\u00a0 Located in the heart of San Francisco, USF is a diverse, liberal arts university that emphasizes social justice and global perspectives.<\/p>\n
We seek candidates with interdisciplinary experience who are able to teach a variety of courses in emerging technologies and digital design practices.\u00a0 Ideal candidates will be conversant with both historical and contemporary issues in the discipline and will be able to connect design practice to issues of political, environmental, and community concern.<\/p>\n
Job Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Qualifications include: MFA degree (or equivalent) in Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia or a related field; significant and successful teaching experience at the university level; expertise in a range of design practices; equal comfort and fluency in teaching technical and conceptual skills; a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and scholarship in a liberal arts setting; readiness to work collaboratively with faculty across the department, including Fine Arts, Art History and Arts Management, and Architecture and Community Design; willingness to work in a culturally diverse environment; and a commitment to support the university mission. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong exhibition, research and\/or publication record with national exposure and peer evaluation.\u00a0 Once hired, full-time faculty members at USF become responsible for contributing to teaching, research, and service to the University including student advising and program development.\u00a0 Teaching load is two courses per semester with a third class once every two years.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
Teaching responsibilities include introductory and advanced topics in a variety of courses.\u00a0 Successful candidates will be able to teach in at least three of the following areas: foundations, web design, interaction design, mobile\/responsive design, physical computing, industrial\/product design, identity design, environmental and installation design, generative art and design, design rhetoric and semiology, contemporary issues in design, social justice and service learning.\u00a0 Additional areas of expertise are welcome.<\/p>\n
