SUMMARY<\/p>\n
Queens University of Charlotte invites applications for its endowed Knight-Crane Professor of<\/p>\n
Communication (open rank) specializing in Civic Media, with a focus on emerging media and<\/p>\n
culture. This is a full-time, nine month tenure track position beginning August 2015 reporting to<\/p>\n
the Dean of the James L. Knight School of Communication. The Knight School at Queens operates<\/p>\n
with an endowment from the Knight Foundation, and shares the Foundation\u2019s investment in<\/p>\n
creating informed and engaged communities. The School\u2019s undergraduate and graduate<\/p>\n
programs offer students a critical lens on how digital technologies are transforming society and<\/p>\n
culture, producing new forms of interaction, and modeling new information ecosystems.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED<\/p>\n
The endowed professorship will provide leadership in the Knight School\u2019s strategic initiatives, and<\/p>\n
have research and teaching interests aligned with the School\u2019s particular focus on bridging<\/p>\n
community engagement, digital literacy, and new media innovation. Ideal candidates will have critical<\/p>\n
expertise in digital technologies and emerging media-based community forms, a demonstrated<\/p>\n
capacity for research in their areas, teaching experience, a willingness to help build curriculum, and<\/p>\n
an investment in community engagement. The endowed chair will be encouraged to further the<\/p>\n
School\u2019s innovative research program, and develop collaborative grant supported projects.<\/p>\n
A PhD in communication, media, culture, technology studies or a related field is required. A<\/p>\n
background in such areas as digital citizenship, news and information literacy, media analysis, and\/or<\/p>\n
data-driven storytelling is highly desirable. Applicants must possess a high degree of critical<\/p>\n
competency to participate in partnerships with a broad range of media industries and civic agencies,<\/p>\n
have a well-defined research agenda, and a demonstrated publication record. Prior teaching<\/p>\n
experience and a commitment to teaching excellence are required.<\/p>\n
