This is a full-time, nine month tenure track position beginning August 2015 reporting to\u00a0the Dean of the James L. Knight School of Communication. The Knight School at Queens operates\u00a0with an endowment from the Knight Foundation, and shares the Foundation\u2019s investment in\u00a0creating informed and engaged communities. The School\u2019s undergraduate and graduate\u00a0programs offer students a critical lens on how digital technologies are transforming society and\u00a0culture, producing new forms of interaction, and modeling new information ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED<\/p>\n<p>The endowed professorship will provide leadership in the Knight School\u2019s strategic initiatives, and\u00a0have research and teaching interests aligned with the School\u2019s particular focus on bridging\u00a0community engagement, digital literacy, and new media innovation. Ideal candidates will have critical\u00a0expertise in digital technologies and emerging media-based community forms, a demonstrated\u00a0capacity for research in their areas, teaching experience, a willingness to help build curriculum, and\u00a0an investment in community engagement. The endowed chair will be encouraged to further the\u00a0School\u2019s innovative research program, and develop collaborative grant supported projects.<\/p>\n<p>A PhD in communication, media, culture, technology studies or a related field is required. A\u00a0background in such areas as digital citizenship, news and information literacy, media analysis, and\/or\u00a0data-driven storytelling is highly desirable. Applicants must possess a high degree of critical\u00a0competency to participate in partnerships with a broad range of media industries and civic agencies,\u00a0have a well-defined research agenda, and a demonstrated publication record.
