The technician should have a strong command of existing art and design fabrication practices with the ability to learn new skills and technologies as needed. This position will work to implement support for curricula, policies, and facilities as it relates to the Parsons mission. They will support an ongoing commitment to developing and updating to environmentally sensitive practices. This is an administrative non-union position that reports to a Facilities Manager in the Making Center.Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\n-Daily safety supervision and enforcement of written policies for use of the Parsons making facilities by students, faculty, and staff.
\n-Routine maintenance and repair of facility tools and equipment including: hand\/ power tools, woodworking, metal working, sanding and finishing, pneumatic tools, CAD<\/span> based tools and technology, textile related machinery, and other general tools and machines dedicated to fabrication and making.
\n-Maintain relationships with faculty and technicians within a work environment that services a broad range of students.
\n-Support faculty taught learning objectives during facility open working hours.
\n-Provide instructional support for use of tools and equipment. Assist with organization of process and material workshops.
\n-Must be responsible for staying current on traditional and digital equipment, tools, materials, and processes.
\n-Assist with inventory oversight and ordering of materials and supplies.
\n-Training and management of work study students.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n\n Minimum Qualifications:<\/th>\n Masters degree or Bachelors degree with significant experience in a related field.
\n-Flexible schedule ability to work nights and weekends.
\nRobust knowledge of a variety of production and fabrication techniques; Be familiar with practices related to current design and art practice including: fabrication, methodology and processes; experience and knowledge of working with a wide variety of materials.
\n-Strong ability to assist students working in an interdisciplinary manner from concept to fabrication.
\n-Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, CAD<\/span> based programs, and Google Docs.
\n-Proven track record of working well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, \u2028professional training, and aesthetic sensibilities in a creative environment.
\n-Ability to develop and nurture individual student\u2019s abilities and a strong \u2028commitment to progressive art and design education.
\n-Highly organized with excellent customer service skills as well as clear written and verbal communication.
