The adjunct rate is approximately $65\/hr for 45 hours (which includes the Final).<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><b>The Art Department has a Digital Design\u00a0concentration in the BA for studio art with about 145 students, and a BFA in Electronic Design and Multimedia with about 70 students, for whom this is one of two alternative required Art History courses.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><b>============<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>Art 21068 History of Graphic Design<\/b><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">This course approaches the study of graphic design as a tool for communicating, reinforcing and shaping socially constructed ideals by tracing the role of communication arts from pre-historic to contemporary postmodern aesthetics. 3hrs\/3cr.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #666666; font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode', 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;\">additional description:<\/span><\/div>\n<div>This course covers a chronological history of graphic design beginning with the Victorian Era in England and America, from the Industrial Revolution to the advent of digital design in the 1980s. Included is an overview of the innovations and developments in the United States and Europe in major areas of graphic design, such as advertising, publication design, corporate, packaging, and animation, as well as the contributions made by outstanding designers. Developing visual literacy through reading, written assignments and slide lecture, along with understanding how technology, social and political climates, individuals and trends inform and transform design concepts is central to this course.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><b>Learning Outcomes:\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 This course will provide students with a solid understanding of graphic design history as it has informed and shaped contemporary design practices.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The course further aids the student in recognizing the standards that go to creating \u2018good\u2019 design as established by the various movements and schools throughout this history\u2014the same practices and standards that are concurrently being taught in the EDM and STUDIO ART areas of study.\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Students arrive at \u2018visual literacy\u2019\u2014the knowledge, along with a descriptive vocabulary of design\u2014that will afford them the ability to astutely discuss and write about a graphic work, not least their own work, in the school setting, for an audience of their peers, or in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">Applicants can\u00a0contact Professor Weintraub by email.
