The New York Times is looking for a Software Engineer passionate about technology and web development to join our Video Team.\u00a0 You will be working with a highly skilled team responsible for creating and maintaining video products and platforms across The New York Times.\u00a0 This is an opportunity to have a huge impact at the Times \u2014 since video is a growth area.\u00a0 The teams core products are the New York Times Video Player, the Video API and the TimesVideo web application (http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/video<\/a>) built on Node.js.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Must Have<\/p>\n – Professional Advanced Javascript frontend and backend programming experience.<\/p>\n – Working experience in at least one other backend programming language. (Python, Java, PHP, Go)<\/p>\n – Fluent with HTML5, CSS3, and SASS.<\/p>\n – Passionate about Technology and Web Development.<\/p>\n – An eye for product and an attention to detail<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Should Have<\/p>\n – Strong knowledge of software design and architecture.<\/p>\n – Capabilities of writing maintainable Javascript code without the need of libraries<\/p>\n – Experience working in Node.js.<\/p>\n – Experience developing for mobile web.<\/p>\n – Experience with TDD, Continuous Delivery, and the Agile software development cycle.<\/p>\n – A culture of writing tests and using testing frameworks (unit, integration, functional).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Nice to have<\/p>\n – DevOps skills (Linux containers\/Docker, Puppet, Ansible, Varnish, Nginx, AWS).<\/p>\n – Working experience with Video Technologies: Encoding\/transcoding, Streaming media protocols, Live streaming.<\/p>\n – Experience with HTML5 streaming technologies, HLS, and\/or DASH<\/p>\n – Previous experience developing and maintaining large-scale web applications at scale.<\/p>\n – Public (github, bitbucket) and open source contributions.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
