{"id":17874,"date":"2016-08-22T15:21:13","date_gmt":"2016-08-22T19:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=17874"},"modified":"2016-08-22T15:21:13","modified_gmt":"2016-08-22T19:21:13","slug":"job-digital-learning-manager-nyc-department-of-youth-and-community-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2016\/08\/22\/job-digital-learning-manager-nyc-department-of-youth-and-community-development\/","title":{"rendered":"JOB: Digital Learning Manager, NYC Department of Youth and Community Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From\u00a0NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (NYC DYCD).<\/p>\n<p>Through a competitive RFP process NYC DYCD awards contracts to community based organizations (CBOs) to operate programs and services for NYC youth and families; most programs and services are in NYC\u2019s underserved communities.\u00a0 NYC DYCD currently funds the nation\u2019s largest network of afterschool programs (+900) most of which are located in NYC public schools.\u00a0 Others are located in NYCHA housing complexes, community centers and a few parochial schools.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NYC DYCD also awards contracts to non-profit organizations to provide technical assistance services to CBOs operating afterschool programs.\u00a0 ExpandEd Schools, formerly known as The After-School Corporation has a contract to provide support services on digital learning for afterschool programs.\u00a0 Attached is a job description from ExpandEd Schools for this position.\u00a0 Thought there may be an ITP person who would find this challenge interesting.<\/p>\n<p>POSITION AVAILABLE<\/p>\n<p>Digital Learning Manager<\/p>\n<p>ExpandED Schools is a national nonprofit dedicated to closing the learning gap by<\/p>\n<p>increasing access to enriched education experiences. \u00a0In 1998, we were founded as The<\/p>\n<p>After-School Corporation. In our first decade, we created the nation\u2019s first citywide system<\/p>\n<p>of K-12 after-school programs and leveraged more than four dollars in private and public<\/p>\n<p>spending for every dollar of our founding grant. Today, we continue to reimagine learning<\/p>\n<p>time \u2013 in school, after school and during the summer \u2013 seeking to ensure that all kids have<\/p>\n<p>opportunities to discover their talents and develop their full potential. We develop scalable<\/p>\n<p>and sustainable models that provide more learning time. We:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 EXPAND the school day: We add more time each day to help close the learning<\/p>\n<p>gap by up to 450 hours each school year.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 ENGAGE the community: We bring additional passion, talent, child development<\/p>\n<p>expertise and role models into the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 ENHANCE the learning: We balance the curriculum with the arts, movement and<\/p>\n<p>personalized hands-on enrichments such as robotics, book clubs, knitting, debate<\/p>\n<p>and salsa dance.<\/p>\n<p>Position Summary<\/p>\n<p>The Digital Learning Manager will support the delivery of high quality digital and computer<\/p>\n<p>science instruction and enrichments in expanded learning schools and after school and summer<\/p>\n<p>programs. This is a part-time (60%) position, with the potential to become full-time.<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Oversee all deliverables and activities related to ExpandED Schools Technology\/Computer<\/p>\n<p>Science Technical Assistance contract with the City\u2019s Department of Youth and Community<\/p>\n<p>Development (DYCD). (Activities will include training sessions on implementing<\/p>\n<p>computational thinking activities within design-based learning environments, Google CS<\/p>\n<p>First, and Raspberry Pi devices for educators who work with children in grades 3-8.)<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Plan, prepare, and facilitate digital learning and computer science workshops for teachers<\/p>\n<p>and after-school and expanded learning staff<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Provide on-site coaching for educators who lead computer science activities or use<\/p>\n<p>technology to teach<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Manage grants and contracting with funders (e.g., DYCD) and training partners<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Brief ExpandED Schools staff on current trends in education technology that may benefit<\/p>\n<p>our programs<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Collect information needed for reports to ExpandED Schools\u2019 management and funder(s)<\/p>\n<p>and help draft reports, briefs, project descriptions, blogs, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Bachelor\u2019s degree and at least three years of experience related to science education;<\/p>\n<p>Master\u2019s degree preferred<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Computer science experience and familiarity with Raspberry Pi devices essential<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Knowledge of basic programming languages, including Scratch, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Passion for digital learning (both teaching and learning with technology)<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Demonstrated training and coaching experience and expertise<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Knowledge of effective after-school practices and activities preferred<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Strong speaking, writing, and facilitation skills<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with complexity and change<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Creative thinking, strong interpersonal skills, the desire to work collaboratively, and a sense<\/p>\n<p>of humor<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Competent computer skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Willingness to travel throughout NYC for school and after-school visits and TA sessions<\/p>\n<p>This position requires regular use of public transportation and regular work in school buildings<\/p>\n<p>that may require lifting books and climbing stairs.<\/p>\n<p>To apply:<\/p>\n<p>Interested candidates should email a cover letter and resume to<\/p>\n<p>employment@expandedschools.org Subject: Digital Learning Manager &#8211; [Candidate&amp;#39;s First &amp;amp;<\/p>\n<p>Last Name]<\/p>\n<p>No faxes or phone calls, please.
