The developer will combine the art of design with the art of programming and<\/p>\n<p>act as the primary owner of user interaction and experience for our service. Working closely with<\/p>\n<p>the managing director, the PIs, the backend programmer and the service team, the developer<\/p>\n<p>will design, develop and modify tools, including web applications and interfaces as well as<\/p>\n<p>mobile apps to enable behavioral researchers to collaborate, store, discover, explore and<\/p>\n<p>access video-based research datasets. (S)he will maintain the existing code base and build new<\/p>\n<p>features, enhancements and integrations in modern web frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>Databrary (databrary.org) is the leading open source video data-sharing system for<\/p>\n<p>developmental science. Datavyu (datavyu.org) is a free, open source, multi-platform video<\/p>\n<p>coding tool. This position provides a unique opportunity to play a central role in advancing open<\/p>\n<p>science through data sharing and reuse.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate has a great design sense, is a self starter who is not afraid of learning new<\/p>\n<p>technologies, thinks out of the box, takes initiative, has excellent attention to detail and can work<\/p>\n<p>to take tasks to fruition both collaboratively in a team and independently. The developer will<\/p>\n<p>adapt to the evolving and growing needs of the project.<\/p>\n<p>Essential Responsibilities\/Functions:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Research and evaluation<\/p>\n<p>The developer will analyze and understand current application architecture and front end code<\/p>\n<p>base (written in AngularJS, CoffeeScript), document it thoroughly and make recommendations<\/p>\n<p>to the managing director on a future strategic direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Design and development<\/p>\n<p>The developer will maintain the existing website and application front end code base as well as<\/p>\n<p>troubleshoot bugs to improve application usability. (S)he will take lead of the redesign and<\/p>\n<p>upgrade effort of current front end, define user experiences, build mockups, and rapidly<\/p>\n<p>prototype, test and QA end-to-end solutions. (S)he will develop and release dynamic, modular<\/p>\n<p>and responsive experiences by implementing clean, reusable, well-designed and well-tested<\/p>\n<p>code to add new enhancements, features and integrations to the current platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Feedback and innovation<\/p>\n<p>The applicant will work closely with UI experts and researchers (end users) in the field to<\/p>\n<p>understand usability issues. (S)he will be responsive to their feedback and become a force of<\/p>\n<p>innovation in designing new features to facilitate activities undertaken in relation to the<\/p>\n<p>collection, processing, description, transformation, retention and reuse of research data. (S)he<\/p>\n<p>will design, develop, implement, test and validate existing and new data management and webbased<\/p>\n<p>tools to facilitate research.<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Hands-on experience with modern web frameworks and video technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Knowledge of JavaScript, Angular2, ReactJS or other front end technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Understanding of best practices in SDLC (software development life cycle).<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Skillful in HTML, CSS and UI and UX design principles.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Good understanding of security and cross-browser design issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Understanding of TDD (Test-driven development) and design patterns.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Experience with version control, unix scripting, automation and DevOps practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Familiarity using CRM, project management or task management systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Passion for open source projects and building high quality experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Strong written and oral communication skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Superior listening and analytical skills and a knack for tackling tough problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Ability to multitask and juggle multiple priorities and projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Adaptability and openness to learn and change.<\/p>\n<p>Required Experience:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Track record of developing responsive websites in modern client side web frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Exceptional understanding of design principles, web technologies, REST API and MVC<\/p>\n<p>design patterns.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Extensive experience with JavaScript and JS frameworks (CoffeeScript, Angular2,<\/p>\n<p>ReactJS), HTML5 (audio\/video API), and CSS3 (Stylus).<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Basic knowledge of scientific practices and research tools.<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Education:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf BS, or MS in a related field, or an equivalent combination of formal education and<\/p>\n<p>directly related experience.<\/p>\n<p>To apply send the following to jobs@databrary.org:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf One page cover letter (PDF)<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Resume (PDF)<\/p>\n<p> We will review applications beginning immediately and consider candidates until the position is<\/p>\n<p>filled.
