The course<\/p>\n<p>critically explores notable histories, geographies, and practices of designing interfaces,<\/p>\n<p>communication, and information systems. Students gain an introduction to design<\/p>\n<p>paradigms, internet architecture, and the politics of designing digital media that operate<\/p>\n<p>at intimate, local, and global scales. Design theory and practice are bridged through<\/p>\n<p>readings, lectures, hands-on workshops, and developing an interactive design proposal. <\/p>\n<p>Course Learning Outcomes:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Students will demonstrate an understanding of digital design theory and practice<\/p>\n<p>through critical writing, group discussion, and design work;<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Students will understand common web design standards and principles as well as<\/p>\n<p>basic internet architecture;<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Students will develop an understanding of the logic and potential application of<\/p>\n<p>common web languages such as CSS, PHP, and HTML.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor Qualifications:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Instructor should be knowledgeable in both the study and practice of digital<\/p>\n<p>design;<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Instructor should be aware of current trends and future trajectories of<\/p>\n<p>the cultural, aesthetic, and commercial design of graphical user interfaces,<\/p>\n<p>software agents, and information systems;<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Instructor should be familiar with common web languages such as CSS, PHP, and<\/p>\n<p>HTML; <\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Instructor should be able to communicate this knowledge through both in-class<\/p>\n<p>lectures and design workshops<\/p>\n<p>The course meets once per week for 2.5 hours, in the evening.
