POSITION SUMMARY:<\/p>\n
The teacher will be responsible for the creation, implementation, teaching, and assessment of a 2 or<\/p>\n
7 week course at Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts. The course will be taught on Usdan\u2019s campus in<\/p>\n
Wheatley Heights, Long Island, NY.<\/p>\n

Middle and High School age Orchestra Conductor.<\/p>\n

TRAITS AND CHARACTERISTICS:<\/p>\n
Teachers will be passionate artists and educators with a focus growing and learning. They will seek<\/p>\n
rigorous exploration of ideas, have a willingness to try new things, and be open to and interested in<\/p>\n
feedback. They will work enthusiastically with children, with an understanding of their needs both<\/p>\n
individually and in the modern world. Usdan teachers will be flexible both in and out of the<\/p>\n
classroom and interested in collaboration with Usdan\u2019s faculty within and across disciplines. They<\/p>\n
will be authentic, reliable, respectful, thoughtful, and organized.<\/p>\n
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/p>\n
\u2212 Work with the Department Chair and\/or with the Administrative staff to set goals for the<\/p>\n
class and plan the student experience.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Submit course plans prior to the start of camp.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Work with administrative staff to order supplies and materials<\/p>\n
\u2212 Prepare and organize the setup of the studio.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Teach four hours per day and prepare for each class.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Supervise students at daily assemblies and in passing periods.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Attend department and staff meetings and trainings as required.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Prepare for exhibitions and performances, when relevant.<\/p>\n
\u2212 Lead or attend one 1-hour professional development workshop after camp hours.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Have student safety as a top priority at all times.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Create a joyful, fun and engaging atmosphere in the studio.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Use inquiry, exploration and experimentation as primary teaching tools.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Differentiate instruction to be both challenging and developmentally appropriate for each<\/p>\n
student\u2019s age and ability, which varies within and across classes.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Teach skills that are both technical and cognitive. Encourage students to explore ideas and<\/p>\n
their art form and to actively reflect on the process.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Have a curriculum that is rooted in diversity by incorporating and encouraging multiple<\/p>\n
perspectives from historic and contemporary content.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Create an environment where teachers are learners, there is respect and trust among all<\/p>\n
participants, and a belief in student capacities.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Model the behaviors of artists, how they think, work, and live.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Two week session teachers will collaborate with one other teacher to create a cohesive<\/p>\n
program for students.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS:<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Bachelor’s degree in your art form, education, or equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 A minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably with students of varying ages<\/p>\n
and abilities.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Teachers in arts departments: an active artistic practice, with recent performances,<\/p>\n
exhibitions, or publications and knowledge of contemporary arts teaching practices.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Must be certified in Child Abuse and Neglect\/Maltreatment Identification (can be obtained<\/p>\n
online at no cost).<\/p>\n
2017 SUMMER SEASON DATES, TIMES AND LOCATION:<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Orientation Day, Wednesday, June 21, 2:30 PM \u2013 8:30 PM.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Monday – Friday, June 26 – August 11, 9:15 AM \u2013 3:15 PM (Usdan is closed on July 4).<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 A limited number of offers will be for two week sessions.<\/p>\n
SALARY AND BENEFITS:<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 Salary commensurate with experience; 7 weeks $6000-$7000.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u2212 We encourage our faculty and staff to utilize Usdan for their own artistic purposes.<\/p>\n
Proposals for pre and post season studio use are welcome.<\/p>\n
