PS 3 \u2018til 6 is a non-profit youth organization offering out-of-school enrichment programs in<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Manhattan (West Villlage). Our mission is to support children\u2019s development in a creative,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
nurturing environment. We provide a mix of recreational and specialized activities to<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
children in ages 4-10. The curriculum, designed to supplement and enhance the students\u2019<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
school experience, promotes healthy life-style choices, engagement with the world around us,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and civic responsibility. PS 3 \u2019til 6 classes and workshops help youth build self-confidence and<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
life-long skills through hands-on, inquiry-based learning opportunities.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
PS 3 \u2018til 6 employees are offered rigorous professional training to ensure the highest<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
operational standards. Team members are expected to be excellent role models and develop<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
meaningful relationships with the children in our care.<\/div>\n

Hours of Operation<\/div>\n

The program is open Monday-Friday during afterschool hours, and follows the NYC public<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
school calendar. Candidates may work one or more weekdays.<\/div>\n

SEEKING: Part-Time STEM Educators<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We are seeking Specialists with a background in the STEM disciplines (any combination) to<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
develop and implement creative STEM curricula in an afterschool setting. The Specialist plans<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and leads enrichment workshops in his\/her content area for children ages 5-10. Trained staff<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
members assist with classroom organization and group management. Educators report to the<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Duties<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Develop Semester Plan that includes clear benchmarks and achievement goals.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Plan and facilitate age-appropriate curriculum for children in grades K-5.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Implement hands-on, inquiry based learning strategies.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Manage classes effectively.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Oversee proper use of all equipment and materials, and ensure these are adequately<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
stored when activities end.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Fulfill other duties deemed vital to the function of the organization such as attendance<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
and dismissal procedures, supervision of transitions and breaks, etc.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Work cooperatively with other staff.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Participate in program orientations, staff meetings, and afterschool events.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Qualifications<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 College Degree in area of competence (or commensurate experience).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 At least two years experience working in youth programs.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Clear passion for and detailed knowledge of specialty area.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Experience developing and facilitating experiential learning programs a plus.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\u2022 Self-motivated, creative and enthusiastic about teaching.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Experience in curriculum development.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Ability to engage and inspire students.<\/div>\n

\u2022 Effective classroom management.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Excellent communication skills.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Strong organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 Ability to collaborate with staff to ensure a positive youth experience.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2022 All employees must pass Dept. of Health fingerprinting and other related clearances,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
including a health exam and TB test before beginning work.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
