Working with a<br \/>\nsmall staff in an open office environment, SculptureCenter interns take on projects that<br \/>\nhave a direct and visible outcome in our exhibitions, public programs, and events. They<br \/>\nleave the program with a range of important professional skills for working in the field of<br \/>\ncontemporary art and hands on experience working in a non-profit art institution.<br \/>\nAbout SculptureCenter<br \/>\nSculptureCenter leads the conversation on contemporary art by supporting artistic<br \/>\ninnovation and independent thought highlighting sculpture&#8217;s specific potential to change<br \/>\nthe way we engage with the world. Positioning artists&#8217; work in larger cultural, historical,<br \/>\nand aesthetic contexts, SculptureCenter discerns and interprets emerging ideas. Founded<br \/>\nby artists in 1928, SculptureCenter provides an international forum that connects artists<br \/>\nand audiences by presenting exhibitions, commissioning new work, and generating<br \/>\nscholarship.<br \/>\nCuratorial Internship:<br \/>\nCuratorial interns work directly with the Chief Curator, Curator, and Exhibition and<br \/>\nProgram Manager in the organization of SculptureCenter\u2019s exhibitions, programmatic<br \/>\nactivities, and public events. Summer interns work most intensively on a major project<br \/>\nfocused on emerging artists. Additionally, interns assist with planning and research for<br \/>\nforthcoming exhibitions, participate in exhibition production, help with daily<br \/>\nadministrative duties and correspondence, and assist with public program and event<br \/>\nstaffing.<br \/>\nArchive Internship:<br \/>\nThe Archive Intern will work directly with the Operations Manager to organize and<br \/>\nconsolidate physical and digital archival material at SculptureCenter\u2019s offices and storage<br \/>\nfacility. The Archive Intern will assist in compiling a preliminary assessment of the<br \/>\narchive\u2019s condition and organization, help draft storage procedures, and research archival<br \/>\nmethodologies and best practices. Candidates must be able to work independently and<br \/>\nhave a strong interest in archival or museum studies.<br \/>\nMarketing and Communications Internship:<br \/>\nMarketing and Communications interns work directly with the Communications,<br \/>\nMarketing, and Digital Media Manager. Some responsibilities include supporting<br \/>\ncampaigns for the season&#8217;s exhibitions and events, assisting with the migration and<br \/>\nupdating of website content, sourcing content for social media channels, conducting<br \/>\nguided research for marketing and press outreach opportunities, and maintaining the<br \/>\nexternal listings of our Limited Editions artworks.<\/p>\n<p>Special Events and Development Internship:<br \/>\nThe Special Events and Development interns work directly with the Individual Giving and<br \/>\nEvents Manager, the Executive Office and Development Associate, and the Director of<br \/>\nAdvancement on fundraising initiatives for SculptureCenter patron programs, the<br \/>\nupcoming fall gala, updating the database, prospect research, and individual and<br \/>\ncorporate giving as well as membership, sponsorships, and project planning. Special<br \/>\nEvents and Development Interns also help coordinate patron gallery tours, collection and<br \/>\nstudio visits, and private breakfasts, lunches or dinners. Previous experience in<br \/>\nfundraising and special events preferred.<br \/>\nProfessional skills and experience<br \/>\nAcademic background in art history, fine art, or a related field preferred. Ideal candidates<br \/>\nwill have professional written and oral communication, excellent organization, and online<br \/>\nresearch skills as well as basic familiarity with creative software, such as Photoshop,<br \/>\nInDesign, and Illustrator. Interns should have a strong knowledge of and enthusiasm for<br \/>\ncontemporary art, enjoy visiting galleries and museums in their free time. Prior museum<br \/>\nor gallery experience preferred. Interns provide day-to-day support for museum staff,<br \/>\nincluding administrative duties and correspondence, and assist with event and program<br \/>\nstaffing. Candidates must be willing to learn new skills quickly, have strong<br \/>\ncommunication and organizational skills.<br \/>\nHours and compensation<br \/>\nInternships run from June to August 2018 (start and end dates to be determined in<br \/>\ncoordination with selected applicants). Weeks and hourly scheduling is flexible with an<br \/>\nexpected commitment of two days per week. Internships are unpaid but school credit may<br \/>\nbe earned.
