Videographer Intern<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Safety Net Project (SNP) at the Urban Justice Center (UJC) UJC provides free legal services
\nto low and no-income households at legal clinics located at food pantries, soup kitchens, and
\ncommunity health centers throughout New York City. We advise, assist, and represent
\nindividuals to minimize evictions, ensure tenants obtain necessary repairs to their apartments,
\nand guarantee that those who are eligible for crucial public benefits receive them. We combine
\nlegal services, new media campaigns, and community organizing to advance the movement for
\neconomic justice, preserve and expand access to social service programs, and ensure government
\naccountability.<\/p>\n

SNP is seeking a Videographer Intern to work as the documenter of our upcoming campaign:
\nAccessing Justice. SNP\u2019s multi-media campaign seeks to target tenants who are eligible for free
\nlegal services to inform them of New York City\u2019s new Right to Counsel law, and the benefits of
\nhaving an attorney represent them. The campaign is organized in partnership with Northeastern
\nUniversity, JustFix.nyc, and the Right to Counsel Coalition. The Videographer Intern will be
\njoining this multilateral team to produce meaningful, social justice-oriented digital content to
\nfurther the campaign\u2019s advocacy goals.<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong>
\nSNP is seeking a Videographer Intern with a high degree of creativity, who will be responsible
\nfor digital storytelling and managing media production. The videographer will have tasks related
\nto both production and post-production including footage shooting, assisting with interviews,
\ntransport, operation of equipment, staging, and preparation. The videographer will work
\nalongside SNP executives and the rest of the campaign committee to develop content that
\naccurately and concisely displays the work of the campaign. They may also work alongside the
\nvideo editor to finalize the finished multimedia presentation. This internship is unpaid, but will
\nprovide an excellent opportunity to influence the conversation around poverty and the affordable
\nhousing crisis that affects millions of Americans.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

Only candidates with demonstrable experience with professional video documentation will be
\nconsidered. Candidates who have their own gear and\/or video editing experience will be highly
\npreferred.<\/p>\n

Successful candidates must possess the ability and willingness to learn the basics of the issues
\npresented: NYC Universal Access to Counsel law, landlord\/tenant practice in New York City,
\nand the affordable housing crisis. Candidates should possess an aptitude for engaging with a
\nvariety of people from diverse backgrounds, and a strong desire to work with New Yorkers living in poverty. Applicants must also have knowledge and understanding of how media can be
\na tool for social change, a commitment to the Safety Net Project\u2019s goal of combating stigma
\nagainst homeless and low-income people, and a demonstrated commitment to social and racial
\njustice. Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills are essential. Spanish proficiency is a
\nplus.<\/p>\n
