Parsons School of Design seeks an Assistant Manager in the Parsons Making Center that will serve as a technician with a focus on digital tools for the Making Center. This person should have a strong command of existing art and design fabrication practices and a comprehensive knowledge of the materials needed in these processes. This position will work to implement support for curricula, policies, and facilities as it relates to the Parsons mission. They will support an ongoing commitment to developing and updating to environmentally sensitive practices. This is an administrative position that reports to the Associate Director, Systems Support.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n Act as the primary operational lead and support to full- and part-time technicians in their area.
\nProvide and maintain a safe working environment for students, faculty and staff.
\nWork with the Associate Director to oversee digital processes associated with the Making Center.
\nAssist in developing learning tools to make digital processes more accessible.
\nCoordinate with faculty and staff to facilitate orientations and workshops necessary for curricular support.
\nAssist in research and outreach necessary for bringing in new technology.
\nSchedule student technicians.
\nDaily safety supervision and enforcement of written policies for use of the Parsons making facilities by students, faculty, and staff.
\nMaintain relationships with faculty and technicians within a work environment that services a broad range of students.
\nSupport faculty taught learning objectives during facility open working hours.
\nProvide instructional support for use of tools and equipment. Assist with organization of process and material workshops.
\nMust be responsible for staying current with traditional and digital equipment, tools, materials, and processes.
\nTrain and supervise full time, part time and student technicians in the Making Center.<\/p>\n
