The 12th ACM conference on Creativity & Cognition<\/a> will be held in San Diego, CA at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay<\/a> on June 23-26, 2019, and will be co-located with the conference on Designing Interactive Systems (DIS 2019<\/a>). Conference website: http:\/\/cc.acm.org\/2019<\/a><\/p>\n Submit here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n C&C 2019 invites papers, pictorials, posters, demonstrations, workshops, artworks, and graduate student symposium submissions investigating how interactive computing systems and socio-technical processes affect creativity. Of particular interest are contributions that relate to this year\u2019s conference theme: Transformational Creativity. The theme highlights how human and computational aspects of creativity can beneficially impact our communities and cultures, and how human experience impacts and is impacted by processes of creatively forming and solving problems, designing spaces, and building new possibilities.<\/p>\n We invite submissions that address any and all human senses, including visual, sonic, tangible, olfactory, and somaesthetic modalities. We encourage submissions that address the effects of design and\/or technology on the human creative experience. We seek submissions that attempt to validate key contributions and feature data to deepen our understanding of human creativity. Papers can be 4-10 pages with additional pages allowed for citations.<\/p>\n Pictorials<\/a> (submissions up to 12 pages) should communicate a compelling narrative in which the visual components (e.g. sketches, illustrations, renderings, diagrams, photographs, annotated photographs, collages) are foregrounded as the most important part of the contribution.<\/p>\n Artworks<\/a> submissions should describe an artwork, installation, composition, or performance to be presented at UC San Diego galleries and performance spaces as a capstone event for both C&C and DIS on Tuesday night. More details on the gallery space and venues will be available in the Art Show CfP (coming soon).<\/p>\n Posters<\/a> (submissions up to 6 pages) should highlight early-stage research results that show promise for maturing into a future paper submission.<\/p>\n Demonstrations<\/a> (submissions up to 4 pages) should demonstrate novel socio-technical systems, digital or online tools, or interactive environments that aim to enable, enhance, or otherwise benefit creative experiences. Ideally, the demonstration should invite hands-on experiences for the conference attendees.<\/p>\n Workshops<\/a> (submissions up to 5 pages) should bring together scholars across disciplines to debate, disseminate, and advance the theory and practice of topics relevant to the conference.<\/p>\n Graduate Symposium<\/a> (submissions up to 4 pages) is open to students in a doctoral research program or a masters-level program in arts and design. Submissions should communicate current research \/ design progress and a planned direction of work relevant to the conference, and how the student will benefit from guidance provided by peers and senior mentors.<\/p>\n Conference Topics<\/strong><\/p>\n We seek submissions that speak to, although not limited to, the following topics:<\/p>\n Creativity support environments, that is, interactive computing systems designed to foster, promote, improve, and increase creative experiences, processes, products, and services.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Studies of how computing systems, design, and\/or technology impact creativity across disciplines.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Expressive artworks, in forms such as physical installations, online environments, or hybrid systems which creatively use computing to engage human experiences.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Virtual and mixed reality environments designed to support, provoke, and express creativity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Games that generate open and creative forms of play.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Investigations of curation practices, platforms, and environments, in contexts from everyday to scholarly to museums.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Research on collaboration and creativity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Studies of social media and how it promotes and\/or impairs creativity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Roles for computing to support creativity in classroom environments, including MOOCs.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Roles for crowdsourcing and micro-task workers in creative processes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Roles for physical computing and maker\/hacker culture in creative and expressive human experiences.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Roles that aesthetics play in our experiences and understandings of digital\/computational environments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n New methodologies and theories for investigating the impact of computing on creativity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Studies evaluating creativity in diverse contexts, including work with underserved communities, longitudinal studies, and cross cultural contexts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Historical re-contextualizations that use theory from diverse fields to build new understandings of contemporary developments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/p>\n Co-Location with Designing Interactive Systems 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n C&C<\/a> will be co-located with DIS 2019<\/a>. Authors should review both calls for participation to choose the best venue for their work. Both conferences are sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer\u2013Human Interaction (ACM SIGCHI), which is central to publishing advances in human-computer interaction. While C&C focuses primarily on conjunctions of creativity and computing, DIS addresses issues involving the design, deployment, and impact of interactive systems. Authors are requested to not submit the same work to both conferences; doing so could be grounds for desk rejection.
