The intern will support Third and Fourth grade programming classes and informal drop in times in our Makerspace. Projects include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coding Micro:bit chips with Scratch 3.0, revamping toys and incorporating the Micro:bit chips in the toys. These toys will become controllers for Scratch games, animations and sound.<\/li>\n<li>Programming sound and animation in original maze games<\/li>\n<li>Helping Third Graders teach their kindergarten buddies to code with Bee-Bot, Blue-Bot and KIBO robots<\/li>\n<li>Coding geometric designs that students stitch with an embroidery machine<\/li>\n<li>Making sure that students with a wide range of interests, abilities, and backgrounds develop programming confidence and skill<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The intern will work with Judith Seidel, the Friends Seminary Lower School Technology Integrator and Computer Science Faculty Member. Judith is an experienced Computer Science educator who has taught and developed curriculum in private, public and international schools, She coordinates NYCISTk6, advises student teachers from Columbia Teachers College, and is on the Advisory Board of the New York International Children\u2019s Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Available from 9:00 \u2013 12:00 at least four days a week<\/p>\n<p>Experience programming in Scratch or another visual programming language<\/p>\n<p>Experience teaching elementary school-aged children<\/p>\n<p>Interest in interdisciplinary programming and maker projects<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge of additional programming languages is a plus.<\/p>\n<p>Compensation will be based on the candidate\u2019s level of experience and the number of hours worked each week.
