<\/font>National Geographic=92s Department of Education Programs has an open=
\ning
for a climate educator to serve as Program Manager, Climate Change E=
\nducation.<\/p>\n

This individual will lead the new Climate Change Educatio=
\nn team at
National Geographic in designing materials, professional devel=
\nopment,
and outreach programs about climate change.  He or she will=
\n coordinate
plans and programs throughout the Society and with external =
\npartners,
integrating research, media development and other available re=
\nsources,
and identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-
=
\ndepartmental projects.  He or she will also maintain involvement and communication with the extended climate education community and
partne=
\nrs outside of the society.<\/p>\n

Specifically, this individual will devel=
\nop strategy and implementation
plans for climate education programs and =
\npartnerships, write proposals
and planning documents for long-term colla=
\nborations and program
development projects. He or she will oversee proje=
\nct timelines,
budget, program and materials development; hire and manage=
\n contract
staff as necessary including scientists, teacher-contributors,=
\n
freelance writers and expert reviewers; serve as a liaison to project partners (internal and external) and manage plans for project
publici=
\nty, dissemination and training as appropriate.  He or she will
deve=
\nlop instructional materials including complete curricula,
collections of=
\n lesson plans, activities, teaching posters, family
guides, videos, tool=
\nkits, and other resources.  Materials will be
designed as in-classr=
\noom, informal, and outdoor experiences for pK-12
students, families, and=
\n the public. Finally, he or she will develop
and deliver innovative prof=
\nessional development for educators based on
current educational research=
\n, and customize those experiences based on
grade level, teacher backgrou=
\nnd knowledge, and for in-person and
online audiences.<\/p>\n

Qualifica=
\ntions:
Bachelor’s degree in education, geography, science, or related field required. Masters degree highly preferred. 5 or more years
exper=
\nience in instructional materials development and\/or program-
producing p=
\nrojects (including personnel, budgets, timeline,
production, distributio=
\nn and promotion). Deep understanding of climate
science and climate chan=
\nge research.<\/p>\n

Excellent management and organizational skills with a =
\nhigh attention
to detail; self-direction and motivation; ability to hand=
\nle a variety
of projects with changing priorities in a dynamic environme=
\nnt. Strong
interpersonal skills, including ability to collaborate effect=
\nively
with colleagues and project team members with diverse expertise; collaborative, team-oriented work style.  Passion for National

\neographic Society’s mission to inspire people to care about the
planet, =
\nand for teaching them how to do so.<\/p>\n

This is a 13-month position in =
\nNational Geographic=92s Washington, DC
office, with the possibility of r=
\nenewal contingent on funding. The
position requires 10-20% travel.
