My name is David =
\nPorter, and I’m the founder of a new(ish) digital music service based in NYC=
\n called 8tracks (info below my signature line).<\/font><\/div>\n

We just raised a small round of angel funding (~$100=
\nk), which we’re using to cover our streaming costs (royalties and Amazon Web=
\n Services) over the next 6-9 months.  We’re looking to grow the service=
\n to >1m over this period (from 250k today) and roll out our first of seve=
\nral revenue models (a premium DJ subscription, a tried-and-true model at my =
\nlast company, Live365).<\/font><\/div>\n

\nWhile we’re not paying even our developers yet (all are nights-and-weekends =
\nand now working for equity only), I’d like to recruit an intern to help me c=
\nraft “branded” playlists, taking 2 paths:  <\/font><\/div>\n
Creating playlists from existing =
\n“top 10” lists (e.g. Billboard, iTunes, Amazon)<\/font>Creating playlists for media-savvy brands (e.=
\ng. Whole Foods, Virgin Airlines, American Apparel)<\/font> <\/p>\n
We’re looking to do this in advance=
\n of — but also to help drive — partnerships with these parties, all the wh=
\nile providing compelling programming for listeners.  <\/font><\/div>\n

8tracks provides a simple way for people to shar=
\ne and discover music through an online <\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font>mix<\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font>, a short playlist containing at leas=
\nt 30 minutes =96 roughly 8 tracks =96 of music.  People upload MP3s to =
\ncraft on online playlist; add art, description and tags; and publish the res=
\nulting mix on 8tracks and a personal webpage.  Listeners tune into mixe=
\ns radio-style (like Pandora) and follow those “DJs” they like (like Twitter)=
\n.  8tracks streams under the US compulsory license for webcasting and p=
\nays the associated royalties to SoundExchange each month.<\/i><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/div>\n

8tracks blends traditional means for music discovery=
\n =96 word-of-mouth promotion + radio =96 on a global scale.  And it bel=
\nieves the DJ trumps the algorithm:  think freeform radio in the 60s and=
\n 70s, mixtapes in the 80s and dance music culture of the 90s through today. =
\n <\/i><\/span><\/font>Founded by <\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font>David P=
\norter<\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font> and bootstrapped =
\nby a small team<\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font> in NYC and SF, 8track=
\ns l<\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font>aunched on 8\/8\/2008.  It was nomin=
\nated for best music site in the 2009 Webby Awards and attracts over 250k uni=
\nque visitors per month.<\/i><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/font>=
