For the first time, Pioneer Works is holding\u00a0an\u00a0Open Call for 2020-2021 across all of our residency disciplines in\u00a0Visual Arts<\/a>,\u00a0Music<\/a>,\u00a0Technology<\/a>, and\u00a0Narrative Arts<\/a>\u00a0in an effort to make the application process accessible, equitable, and consistent.\u00a0Our application portal is open\u00a0through September 30, 2019<\/strong>. The applicants will be reviewed by a jury of Alumni Residents from each discipline and experts in their fields such as former Visual Arts Residents Jaimie Warren and Nate Lewis will jury Visual Arts alongside Performance Space New York\u2019s Executive Artistic Director Jenny Schlenzka; former Narrative Arts Resident Joshua Jelly-Schapiro and\u00a0The New York Times Magazine<\/em>\u00a0editor Jazmine Hughes will jury Narrative Arts; four time Grammy Award winner Esperanza Spalding and Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto will jury Music; and former Tech Resident Meriem Bennani and Sophie Kahn as well as Funomena CEO Robin Hunicke will jury Technology.<\/p>\n During the selection process, the jury will seek out candidates who demonstrate artistic excellence\u00a0in work outside existing models and \u201cnorms\u201d of their field, whose practice can make use of our unique facilities and collaborative environment, and those with an interdisciplinary practice. Candidates with an interest in educating the public on the progression of their creative practice through classes, public programs, and performances will be strongly considered.<\/p>\n Upon selection, Pioneer Works will offer a small unrestricted monthly stipend to its residents for the first time ever because as an institution, we realize that living in New York City is expensive and can often limit or confine creative practice.\u00a0While the projects and the residents vary greatly, the Pioneer Works Residency builds community through the arts and sciences to create an open and inspired world.\n<\/p>\n About Our Residency Program:<\/strong><\/p>\n Initiated in 2012, our Visual Arts, Technology, Music, and Narrative Arts Residency programs provide free space and access to a variety of resources\u20143D printers, laser cutters, a sound booth, a kiln, a Risograph, large format printers and scanners, virtuality reality headsets, and more\u2014with the belief that by working together under one roof in close proximity, each program\u2019s energies and ideas can be shared.<\/p>\n We encourage all of our residents to work beyond the studio and integrate their practice within various Pioneer Works programs and platforms like our monthly Second Sundays events, when we open our doors to the general public for activations, open studios, and performances.<\/p>\n Pioneer Works Residency Alumni enjoy benefits like networking and social events, the opportunity to propose classes at Pioneer Works, and potential consideration for Pioneer Works or partner organizations\u2019 exhibitions, art fairs, residencies, and projects.<\/p>\n
