The Music and Audio Research Lab is seeking to recruit two undergraduate summer research interns to work on the Sounds of New York City (SONYC) project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first intern will help develop machine learning-based urban noise monitoring solutions (e.g., urban sound event detection models), and they will help prepare a large-scale urban sound dataset for public release. The intern will work closely with research scientist Dr. Mark Cartwright, as part of a team supervised by Prof. Juan Pablo Bello. The intern should have a computer science background with excellent Python, data wrangling, and code management skills, as well as basic machine learning skills (e.g., has at least taken an intro ML course). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second intern will help develop a mobile app to support residents experiencing issues related to noise pollution. The intern will work closely with research scientist Dr. Graham Dove, as part of a team supervised by Prof. Juan Pablo Bello. The intern should have a computer science background with excellent programming skills (e.g. Swift and\/or Java), and code management skills, as well as some experience in app development (e.g., has at least taken an introductory course).
Both internships are paid, remote, full-time positions for 7 weeks. While remote, the interns will work closely with the team via Slack and will have frequent video-based meetings.
