This =
\nis an exciting opportunity to lead a well-respected, creative organization t=
\nhat has great potential for expansion and replication. The Executive Directo=
\nr will work with a strong staff and a volunteer Board to craft a direction t=
\nowards increased capacity and sustainability. While the office is in Berkele=
\ny, some telecommuting will be possible. <\/p>\n

CRS seeks an Executive Dire=
\nctor who will provide visionary leadership to the Board, staff, and voluntee=
\nrs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to CRS=92s mission and=
\n to raising visibility<\/b> for the organization. S\/he will find opportuni=
\nties to partner<\/b> with organizations and individuals in order to achiev=
\ne CRS=92s goals.. The new Executive Director will expand CRS=92s leadership =
\nin the science education community through strategic planning<\/b>, creati=
\nng opportunities to maximize resources that will help CRS realize its full p=
\notential. S\/he will bring the experience and insight to provide focus and di=
\nrection to CRS=92s strong program base. <\/p>\n

Qualifications<\/b>

\n The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:

\n =95\tThree or more years in a leadership role in a non-profit education orga=
\nnization or closely related field
=95\tFamiliarity with elementary scien=
\nce content and pedagogy
=95 Demonstrated success developing and impleme=
\nnting diversified fundraising plans, including foundation and corporate gran=
\nts, individual donors, and contracts
=95\tExperience developing and impl=
\nementing strategic planning, and measuring organizational outcomes

\norking knowledge of the context of CRS program delivery: K-5 public elementa=
\nry schools, science education organizations, environmental education communi=
\nty
=95\tDemonstrated experience with non-profit financial management and=
\n planning
=95\tDemonstrated success building strategic partnerships

Responsibilities
Leadership:<\/i> Ensure that the available resources are effective=
\nly used to meet the needs of the organization in fulfillment of its mission.=
\n Work in partnership with the Board of Directors to provide direction for th=
\ne organization. Serve as the liaison between Board and staff. <\/p>\n

P=
\nlanning:<\/i> Provide leadership, vision, oversight, and direction for the ac=
\nhievement of CRS=92s mission through strategic organizational planning. Over=
\nsee operational planning to ensure the successful implementation of the stra=
\ntegic plan. Work with planning consultants. <\/p>\n

Board relations: Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure and facilitate the Boar=
\nd=92s involvement in developing CRS=92s policies and programs. Help mobilize=
\n new Board talent to meet organizational needs. <\/p>\n

Staff leadershi=
\np:<\/i> Lead and supervise staff and consultants. Provide leadership to help =
\nstaff with professional development. Oversee scheduling and work flow accord=
\ning to staff capacity. <\/p>\n

Resource development and management:<\/i>=
\n Lead and oversee all development efforts that enhance the financial viabili=
\nty of CRS. Be an active fundraiser for the organization. Write grants or wor=
\nk with a grant writer to bring in $200,000 or more in grant income annually.=
\n Manage the development and implementation of consulting contracts and earne=
\nd income opportunities. <\/p>\n

Program: <\/i>Ensure that program design=
\n and decisions are consistent with CRS=92s mission and vision. Provide focus=
\n and direction to the Teacher Membership and Volunteer (Community in Classro=
\nom) programs. Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of programs. <\/p>\n

Budget, financial and legal oversight:<\/i> Lead the budgeting process and =
\nfinancial management. Work with bookkeeper to maintain accounting in Quickbo=
\noks. Ensure that the Board has all the information it needs to make decision=
\ns. Ensure compliance with legal obligations, insurance policies, and banking=
\n\/credit relationships. <\/p>\n

Public relations and outreach:<\/i> Build=
\n community awareness and lead outreach efforts to new schools and new source=
\ns of volunteers. Serve as chief spokesperson representing the organization i=
\nn the community. Prepare marketing materials and outreach to the media.

Human resources:<\/i> Ensure that personnel and volunteer management=
\n is in accordance with legal obligations and policy. <\/p>\n

\nt provides a unique array of science professional development and informatio=
\nn services to elementary educators in Alameda County. Our mission is to buil=
\nd a community of educators dedicated to getting young students excited about=
\n learning through science. A small office in North Berkeley is home base for=
\n a creative and energetic team providing support services and workshops for =
\nteachers, a large scientist volunteer program, and resource development cons=
\nulting services. With a staff of four (plus contractors and consultants) and=
\n a budget under $300,000, CRS makes use of technological economies of scale =
\nthrough a large database and on-line communications to serve hundreds of loc=
\nal teachers each year with individualized support.
