This is a tenure-track, 1.0 FTE, 9-month position.<br \/>\nIn conjunction with the Graphic Design faculty and the School Director, this position will be primarily<br \/>\nresponsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining courses that focus on emerging technologies in<br \/>\nGraphic Design in the School of Art + Design. The School of Art + Design seeks candidates who are<br \/>\nengaged makers with a strong record of professional practice\/research. A successful candidate will<br \/>\ndemonstrate an expansive view of the field of graphic design, a connection to contemporary and<br \/>\nemerging practices, and the ability to stay current in the latest design methods, technologies, and<br \/>\nplatforms that engage students in productive online learning. In addition to teaching, the position entails<br \/>\nparticipating in curricular development, playing a leadership role in the Graphic Design program, and<br \/>\nsupporting the program\u2019s events and activities.<br \/>\nAbout the Graphic Design Area:<br \/>\nPSU Graphic Design\u2019s mission is to foster the development of strong and engaged communication<br \/>\ndesigners. PSU\u2019s Graphic Design program equips students to conquer creative challenges with a breadth<br \/>\nof technical and artistic skills. Our program prepares students to be exploratory, experimental,<br \/>\ncollaborative graphic designers who can thrive in today\u2019s world.<br \/>\nThe faculty in the design program at Portland State University are active makers as well as educators.<br \/>\nThrough their efforts and connections, Portland State\u2019s graphic design students become part of the larger<br \/>\ndesign community.<br \/>\nThe graphic design program at PSU draws its strength from its location within an expanded School of Art +<br \/>\nDesign and a large research university. <a href=\"http:\/\/PSU.GD\">PSU.GD<\/a>\u2019s curriculum is informed by proximity to programs such as<br \/>\nMFAs in Studio and Social Practice and BFA in Art Practice. Students have the opportunity to collaborate<br \/>\nacross programs and take advantage of facilities and lecture series outside of the <a href=\"http:\/\/PSU.GD\">PSU.GD<\/a> offerings.<br \/>\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:<br \/>\n\u2022 Teach 28 credits per year as determined by Director. A typical teaching load will be 7 4-credit<br \/>\ncourses in the graphic design area.<br \/>\n\u2022 Professional activities of a scholarly nature are expected.<br \/>\n\u2022 Advising students.<br \/>\n\u2022 Departmental, university and community service.<br \/>\n\u2022 Working with other design faculty on program and curricular development.<\/p>\n<p>Required \/ Minimum Qualifications:<br \/>\n\u2022 MFA or equivalent terminal degree in graphic design, new media\/multimedia, or closely related<br \/>\nfield.<br \/>\n\u2022 Research and\/or strong professional accomplishments in graphic, interaction, and experience<br \/>\ndesign (and\/or related fields).<br \/>\n\u2022 Teaching experience at the university level.<br \/>\n\u2022 High level and up-to-date skills in design software\/tools and creative technologies.<br \/>\n\u2022 A proficiency in graphic design concepts and practice, including typography, conceptual problem<br \/>\nsolving, etc.<br \/>\nPreferred Qualifications:<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience in diversity and equity design, 3-D modeling\/printing, experience design,<br \/>\nmicrocontrollers, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, extended reality, and<br \/>\nmixed reality, UX prototyping tools, coding.<br \/>\n\u2022 A background working in a collaborative educational environment.<br \/>\n\u2022 A demonstrated ability to interface with Art Practice, and other areas in the College of the Arts<br \/>\nand beyond.
