{"id":21531,"date":"2022-05-05T10:10:16","date_gmt":"2022-05-05T14:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=21531"},"modified":"2022-05-05T10:10:24","modified_gmt":"2022-05-05T14:10:24","slug":"job-nyu-gallatin-digital-learning-assistant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2022\/05\/05\/job-nyu-gallatin-digital-learning-assistant\/","title":{"rendered":"STUDENT JOB: NYU Gallatin Digital Learning Assistant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NYU Gallatin Digital Learning Assistant<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job Description:\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of NYU Gallatin\u2019s initiative to make the most innovative and effective teaching and learning technologies available to our faculty and students, we are hiring one (1) Graduate-level student to serve as a Digital Learning Assistant (DLA), <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">starting immediately, with the possibility of reappointment. <\/span><b>This position will be remote over the summer, so candidates must have a stable internet connection and a computer, laptop, or iPad\/tablet that will enable them to work from home. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fall requirements for on-location vs. remote work are TBD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DLAs typically work with faculty and students to design and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> implement pedagogically-driven projects using digital platforms, tools, and resources in order to facilitate collaborative, experiential, and active learning. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the work of DLAs has primarily focused on supporting faculty in the use of NYU Brightspace and Zoom, which we expect will continue to be the case. The DLA will also help maintain digital learning resources for Gallatin; create documentation in the form of how-to guides, presentations, and videos; perform accessibility audits and remediation; and help organize and lead workshops promoting digital teaching practices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants should be interested in integrating technology and pedagogy for the benefit of students and faculty, both inside and outside of the classroom. Students with teaching experience are especially encouraged to apply. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gallatin Digital Learning Assistants will have the opportunity to work closely with some of Gallatin\u2019s faculty, staff and students, and to receive extensive training and experience in a highly marketable skill set.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gallatin Digital Learning Assistant <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be paid $26.75\/hour. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is expected that DLAs will work ~10-15 hours per week. DLAs report directly to Jenny Kijowski, Associate Director of Educational Technology at NYU Gallatin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NYU Graduate students in all disciplines are welcome to apply for the position.\u00a0 Applicants must be currently registered full-time students in good academic standing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Learning Assistants will be expected to:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work closely with faculty to integrate technology into the curricula and assignments.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Train and support them in use of NYU\u2019s digital platforms, including, but not limited to NYU Brightspace, Zoom, Google Apps for Education, and NYU Stream;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify and suggest various forms of technology suitable to meet the goals of each class;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attend, participate, and\/or lead portions of some class sessions, as requested by faculty;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hold regular weekly appointment slots for faculty, staff, and students;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perform accessibility audits and remediation, provide training and documentation to faculty, staff, and students on accessibility practices according to NYU\u2019s Web Accessibility Policy;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other duties upon request.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work with students to complete their digital projects.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Train and support them in use of NYU\u2019s digital platforms and third-party applications and tools;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advise and mentor students on their use of tools for educational purposes, at their request;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assist them in locating and evaluating media services, research tools, and databases on the Internet.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attend remote events associated with specific courses and Gallatin-wide interests;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participate in ongoing training and attend regular meetings with members of the Educational Technology team at Gallatin;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepare training documents\/videos, FAQs, and other ed-tech support materials for students, faculty, and DLAs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qualifications<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience with NYU Brightspace, NYU Zoom, Google Apps for Education, and NYU Stream, amongst other tools (training provided)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience with accessible web design a plus (training provided)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CSS and HTML preferred<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interest and experience in digital teaching and learning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent communication skills: DLAs must be able to create meaningful dialogues with faculty from various disciplines with different needs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An exploratory, DIY spirit when it comes to experimenting with emerging technologies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to work independently, as well as with others<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Interested candidates should send a cover letter and CV to Jenny Kijowski at <\/b><b>jenny.kijowski@nyu.edu<\/b><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must address the specific job description outlined here;
